Best scene in Television

OMG, yes! That episode of “Father Ted” was hilarious. I loved the names of the exhibits at the fun fair (“The Spinning Cat,” “Freak Pointing,” “Duck Startling,” and “The Tunnel of Goats.”)

The scene in Mad Men where Pete and Trudy have the Drapers and Cosgroves over for dinner at their suburban home. Nothing of any overt substance happens or is discussed, but you know by the end that Pete (the man with the miniature orchestra) is the most miserable man in the world.

There are so many amazing scenes from “Game of Thrones” but I think Lady Olenna’s confession is the best of them. Just amazingly well done.

NOTE: Not easy to watch.

For me, it’s the series ending of Newhart.

Ha! I agree and I was just looking that one up.

Best/worst ninja ever.

That’s a good scene, but it’s still only the second-best use of a late-period Johnny Cash song in a circa-2010 science fiction series on the subject of artificial intelligence. The best is the opening scene of the episode “The Devil’s Share” of Person of Interest.

I will add another one that was so well done not just because of the scene, but because there was NO indication it was coming:

Luke Skywalker arrives at the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian.

“Repeat after me: ‘I, Ross’.”
“I, Ross.”
‘Take thee, Emily.’
“Take thee, Rachel.”

How about a lovely horse?

Twin Peaks- Murderer reveal / Maddy’s murder.

Uh, oh, if we include Cabin Pressure, that’s twenty or so “best scenes” right there…

“Polar Bears are… brilliant!”

Carol Burnett coming down the stairs wearing the curtains was a pretty good one.

Two scenes from Breaking Bad, but they’re easy pickin’s:

  1. Where the tub falls through the floor. I was glued to that series from that moment on.

  2. “Stealing” the laptop from the police evidence locker. That whole episode is my favorite.

There are many others from other shows, but these are the first that sprang to mind.

The final episode of Six Feet Under was mesmerizing and impacted me for days.

Snoop buys a nail gun, The Wire, Season 4, episode 1:

Bubbles’ one-year sobriety speech, The Wire, Season 5, episode 9:

I don’t really understand what happened to Vincent Kartheiser’s career. After Mad Men he seemed poised for legendary status as a dramatic actor in A-list projects, but that didn’t happen at all. Looking at his output of the past 10 years on Wikipedia I see nothing that has made a splash. In 2021 there were “allegations of disruptive, juvenile behavior and inappropriate comments on set” from him - is he just a dickhead that nobody wants to hire? He acted the pants off everyone in Mad Men including Jon Hamm, and that’s saying something.

IIRC Mythbusters did an episode testing whether they could dissolve a body in a tub (which happened to fall through the floor).

My favorite episode of “Breaking Bad” was the one where Walt spends the whole episode chasing a fly.

Pretty much anything from the 1979 Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but let’s say:

Smiley’s visit to Connie Sachs
The turning of Toby Esterhaze
The silent opening sequence
Guillam Vs Alleline

Just remembered the Smoke Alarm scene from The Office!
