Hard to pick from both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
But my favorite from BCS was Jimmy negotiating with Tuco on behalf of the redheaded twins who helped him run a scam. He finds himself acting very lawyerly and essentially plea-bargains them down from an agonizing death to “only” breaking their legs. He further insists on one leg each and Tuco agrees. Having “won” that case, he then has to stand by as the sentence is carried out.
Blink, the entire show, but for a scene, the transcript scene with “wibbly wobbly timey whimy”
Marcus Cole : I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them?’ So now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.
Love B5 and quote a lot but this one got to me in ways I still find.
I saw that live and still laugh at it.
West Wing: A fair number, although I didn’t see the whole series. I do like when he yells at god and smokes in the church or when he embarrasses the woman who didn’t stand when he entered the room.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip: I still adore this show, so many good scenes. “I don’t write the news. I can’t wait for something funny to happen. I have to make something funny happen.”
I use a paraphrased version of this with my students since I’m a teacher. They love to complain about things not being fair and I tell them it’s a good thing love isn’t fair, etc.
I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw Beavis and Butthead watching the “Sweet Harmony” video:
BUTT-HEAD: Whoa! Naked chicks! It’s like, they must have known the music sucks, so they decided to put in a lot of naked chicks instead! BEAVIS: They did the right thing!
In one of Heinlein’s juvenile novels, Tunnel in the Sky, the protagonist Rod and his classmates are having a final seminar with an instructor. They are soon to take an important survival test and are discussing how it will be conducted. One young man complains the test isn’t fair, as they have no idea what kind of conditions or environment they will be pitched into. The instructor fails him on the spot and says that anyone who thinks life is supposed to be fair isn’t ready for the test.
Third season The Wonder Years, where Kevin has been getting close to one his teachers who then dies. The shock is all over Fred Savage’s face. Plus, he gets the news from the principal, who, up to this point in the series, has been mostly a dick. The principal delivers the news in a really compassionate way. I think this was the point where It hit me that the producers weren’t just screwing around with this show.
The entire episode from Barney Miller where the brownies are laced with hash is hilarious from beginning to end. Well, it was when I watched it back in the 70s, anyway.
In my opinion this is the best fight scene film for television. One shot, no cuts. Raw and realistic, not at all what you normally saw from a superhero show. Sometimes it’s Charlie Cox doing his own stunts and sometimes it’s a double but it’s blended seamlessly.
"Whaddya guys say we go down to the beach and shoot some clams?‘’
Yes, definitely the funniest episode of this great show
