Duke is correct: aa is the coolest scrabble word. Just because no one who doesn’t play scrabble or live in Hawaii or is a geology expert will believe it’s a word.
The coolest words are words that people don’t believe. My favorite among these is “karst”. I TOLD them what it means before they challenged it, but they didn’t believe me. Hah, hah, hahhhhh, suckers!
I think Mjollnir meant two-letter/double vowel words. Maybe.
I’ve used LIBERTY and either FIZZLE or FIZZLES (needed a blank). Those two were both worth good points, but it was 3 years ago, so I’m not sure how much.
I’d love to use QUIXOTIC some time.
Hmmm…I’ve never been to Hawaii, I’m not a geologist, and almost never play Scrabble (the “byzantine” incident was an aberration), but I knew what “aa” meant. (Of course, I’m also the guy who gets lots of definitions right in Balderdash.) Of course, I seem to recall using “pahoehoe” in that same game of Scrabble–what else can you do with 2 "H"s and a rack full of vowels?
“Aa” is the coolest Scrabble word I’ve seen, though.
The two-letter words are fine in human games, but has anyone else tried the Scrabble computer game? The computer treats all the words in its dictionary equally and therefore seems to play only with obscure 2- and 3-letter words. It gets tedious after a while.
Balance – oh, great, so now I HAVE to like you! That really sucks! But I HAVE to like you. Yeah, yeah, your name has been forwarded to my minions but I’m not too happy about it. I think it’s cheap and unfair but Gosh-darn-it-all those are the rules…
For my own part? I got a great score on DINNER… I think I hit the R and got like double word score on the D and triple word score overall… I just remember really getting a beating after that word; hey, my family plays hard ball Scrabble!
I like kudzu as a Scrabble word.
