i thought the ‘first non-brazilian person to travel through time’ was a reference to ‘where in time is carmen sandiega’

It IS, but I’m taking the word of the writers (the people who would actually know) above that of the people who wrote the Encyclopedia.
Freedom, actually. Twirling towards freedom.
The “chalk-faced goons” were Edgar and Johnny Winter, who hold the distincion of being likely the only famous albino rock stars.
“Time and Punishment” is definitely my favorite of the bunch.
Of course, how can this thread continue any further without noting that a Simpson’s Halloween episode gave use the anti-French insult “cheese-eating surrender monkeys” which has entered the common lexicon since the Bush-Saddam saber-rattling began last fall.
Treehouse of Horror 4 ranks as my top Simpson Halloween ep simply because it had both this one and my other favortie Bart Simpsons’s Dracula.
(BTW to let you know Zen…The ‘losing sports team’ were the 76’ Philadelphia Flyers otherwise know as the Broad Street Bullies. They were notorious for their goon squad fights and racked up the most penalty minutes ever as a team that year. They did pretty well that year but it was more through intimidation rather than hockey talent.)
Oh and I love how James Coco supposedly went insane after 15 minutes on the doughnut feeding machine.
Another vote for Bart Simpson’s Dracula. A classic spoof of a lot of vampire lore and containing the still classic:
Homer: “Kill my boss?!? Do I dare live out the American Dream?”
It’s just too hard to pick a favorite segment because so many of them are good in different ways. My favorite introduction on the other hand is:
Homer: They’re dogs… AND THEY’RE PLAYING POKER!! [insane laugh]
Oh and the funniest tombstone in the openning is “Casper the Friendly Boy”.
Yes, duly noted. Given Dan Quayle’s stated views on The Simpsons, it’s rather amusing that a line from the show played such a prominent role in our foreign policy. Although I’m just waiting to be hit with Le Bomb now.
No votes for “Nightmare Cafeteria”?
“Oh, relax, kids. I’ve got a ‘gut’ feeling Uter’s around here somewhere. After all, isn’t there a little Uter in all of us? In fact, you might even say that we just ‘ate’ Uter and he’s in our ‘stomachs’ right now! Wait, scratch that one.”
“There’s no mystery about Groundskeeper Willie - he simply disappeared! Now let’s have no more curiosity about this bizarre coverup.”
Actually, incorrect. The ethnic slur Mayor Quimby stood by in The Homega Man involved “frog’s legs.” It was Groundskeeper Willie, substitute French teacher, who in a non-Halloween episode told the class, “Bonjourrrrrrrrr, ya cheese-eatin’ surrender monkeys!”
However, aforementioned short did give us a line (cut in syndication) that I often repeat for no reason: “Ah, Farley, why did you put Spade in charge of the bees?”
Right you are. The line in the Halloween episode was about frogs. Mayor Quimby said “I stand by my ethnic slur” shortly before the French launched Le Bombe at Springfield. Of course, after agreeing to destroy it, they shared a maniacal laugh, and their throats puffed out like bullfrogs.
Time and Punishment
Best Vignette Ever
and
Dial Z for Zombies
“Flanders was a Zombie?”
My all time favorite episode is the one where Homer goes to work for Frank Scorpio.
Re: cheese-eating surrender monkeys.
:o Oops.
Chaim Mattis Keller
Lisa: No Dad, wait. That’s blood.
Homer: Not just blood. FREE BLOOD.
That’s the episode that ends with the take-off on the ending of “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” With Milhouse on the piano and SLH dancing. The Newark Star Ledger once did a story on “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and stated “The Simpsons parodied it in one of their Christmas specials.” :wally
I hope you don’t live on the East Coast, because it was taken over by Hank Scorpio. That was a very funny show - I love the Denver Broncos practicing on the Simpsons’ lawn.
I think you got all my favorites, but I want to add a few great lines.
From the election episode.
Homer: Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos
The one where Flanders is the Devil
Bart: I’d sell my soul for a (some kind of car, forget which)
Bart: Nah, forget it.
Marge: Bart! Stop teasing the devil!
By the way, did anyone know that Kodos is a girl. Well at least, the first time they appear, Kang introduces her as “my sister Kodos”. This may have been contradicted later.
No, Kodos is still Kang’s sister. I think it may’ve been referred to multiple times, actually. They only show up in the Halloween specials anyway (and the one clip show).

I had my CPR requalification exam today, made me think of you immediately!
The instructor handed me the removal mouth for the dummy and all I could think of was the episode where Homer is chopped into pieces… and his mouth and lips were one piece! OMG! I am holding Homer Simpsons lips! ewww
On the up side it did make me relax enough to fly through the exam!
