I used to have a kindle DX, then switched to reading books on a tablet. Someone gave me a present of a kindle paperwhite recently so I’m making the switch back again.
In the old days I used Calibre and Kindle Collection Manager to convert book formats and easily create collections on my device. Nowadays it seems that I’d have to jailbreak my Kindle for collection manager to work (which I’m not particularly interested in doing). Also I’m having huge problems with Calibre (when creating my library it doesn’t seem to copy the actual ebook files, instead just creating metadata for them. Then when I try to send to device it chokes and says it can’t find any ebook formats).
So what’s the be all and end all of kindle management software today?
(Also I hate the new interface, the DX was much less obnoxious. Kindles are good hardware but the software is appalling).
And on the kindle itself, is there any way to show collections and all books not in collections. Right now I seem to be able to either select to only show collections or show all my books (including those in collections)
I know this really won’t help much, but I’m using Calibre 2.75.1.0 with my Kindle Voyage and I didn’t have to modify my Kindle in any way.
I’ve never had any trouble with book management so I’ve never had to do any troubleshooting to be able to offer advice. All I’ve got is anecdotal evidence that you should be able to get your current setup to work for you. I’d start with Google to see if anyone else has been where you are and what they did about it.
re: Orphaned books. I think you’re out of luck there. Maybe set up a Misc collection?
Good luck!
That’s infuriating. The old kindles used to just show you collections and then all books not in collections afterwards. The new home screen is much worse.
I got calibre working in the end, is there any other solution for collections except manually creating them on the device?
