Best song on Weird Al Yankovic's Dare To Be Stupid

Trivia for Al’s third album:

  • Was the first ever comedy music CD ever released (1985)

  • Was gonna include the song When Eggs Fry, parody of When Doves Cry, but Prince didn’t have a sense of humor about it (just like he blocked 1999 from being in Polkas on 45)

  • Contains a newly recorded version of Yoda, which was written over 5 years ago and was planned for the first album, but had so many legal hoops to jump through that it took that long to get everyone’s approval. I personally hate the version on this album (even though I love the song itself), and greatly prefer the accordion-led version, which is the one they perform live.

  • Nominated for best comedy grammy, but lost to Bill Cosby.

  • Contains Al’s only album-released straight cover

  • State of Shock, Sharp Dressed Man, What’s Love Got To Do With It, Method of Modern Love, Owner of a Lonely Heart, We’re Not Gonna Take It, 99 Luft Balloons, Footloose, The Reflex, Metal Health, Relax

This is a tough one. Dare To Be Stupid and Like A Surgeon are both excellent representatives of a style parody and a specific song parody. One More Minute is also really good.

Ultimately, though, I have to go with This Is The Life, because one, it’s a fun song, and two, it’s the theme to Johnny Dangerously. And that’s awesome.

I went with This Is The Life though I would put about half the album a very close second.

Interesting that the first two votes are for This Is the Life. I would have expected *Yoda *in a runaway.

I think I’ve only listened to it twice a long time ago, and I dimly recall not being terribly impressed with it.

It was Al’s live encore for a loooong time.

And it still is.

Note that This Is The Life was written for the film first, not the album. I’ve always wanted to try a Perrier bath.

I voted for the title track, because it’s a great song full of great advice for living.

But “One More Minute” and “Yoda” are close runners up.

One More Minute is great all around, but my favorite part is this segue:

It makes me giggle every time.

I also like Dare to Be Stupid, Yoda, and Slime Creatures from Outer Space.

One More Minute.

("… I’m standing all alone at the gas station of love, and I have to use the self-service pumps…")

One of Al’s most risque lines until… well, probably ‘I Wanna Be Ur Lover’.

One More Minute

As you might tell from my votes in these things I’m partial to Al’s original satires. And that one’s one of the all time great post-break up songs.

I’ve always lived by the belief, “Mashed potatoes can be your friend,” so Dare to be Stupid got my vote, too.

Put down that chainsaw and listen to me: *One More Minute *is the funniest song not just on this record, but ever.

I’m mostly not into Al’s parody songs, but “I Want a New Duck” is elevated because of the bad puns.

This is really painful having to choose one…

Dare to be Stupid gets the nod, being on The Transformers The Movie soundtrack gets it one extra point, just enough to nudge it past Like a Surgeon, Yoda, One More Minute, I Wanna New Duck, Slime Creatures From Outer Space, Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch, and Cable TV.

Yeah, I really like this album, lol

It took me years and years to see the naughty pun from that line. I just never think of Weird Al and risque lyrics to anything.

I didn’t realize that line had a dirty connotation until this thread. Now it’s right there, slapping me in the face. :smack:

… That’s what *she *said.
