They also did Suck My Kiss, which dispenses with the subtlety.

“Her Way of Praying” by Jesus and Mary Chain.

Fall to her call on a Saturday night
She’s got the hip dippin’ trick of all time done right
She’s got her lips sticking tight to her find tonight
She’s keeping time, keeping time with the mystery rhyme

What I’d like is I’d like to hug and kiss you

The “oldie but goodie” here is the Song of Solomon. Heh heh. Biblickal porn?

“The Bear and the Maiden Fair” from Game of Thrones

Diegetic version:

Punk rock version:

Honorable mention, since the song doesn’t really become about oral sex until its conclusion:

“Under Your Spell” from the Buffy musical. Sorry this video isn’t great quality. Treat yourself and just rewatch the whole episode on Netflix.

Not necessarily. The Stones might have been referencing blueswoman Lucille Bogan’s 1935 Shave 'Em Dry, which contained this subtle verse:

Got nipples on my titties
‘Bout big as the end of my thumb.
I got somethin’ 'tween my legs
That’ll make a dead man come
.

which is clearly about intercourse. The Stones were greatly influenced by the blues.

Monty Python - Sit on My Face

Porpoise Mouth (Country Joe & The Fish):

I hunger for your porpoise mouth
And stand erect for love.

I would question whether the Stones had heard this version of “Shave 'em Dry” when the vocal to “Start Me Up” was recorded in 1981. That was the final vocal; it’s possible that earlier versions had been recorded with this line already intact, as the song actually dates to 1975.

In any case, there are two takes of “Shave 'em Dry.” The one that was released on 78 is bawdy, but not nearly as explicit as the alternate take. It’s highly unlikely that the alternate take would have been released commercially in any form at the time of its recording. I probably didn’t surface until quite some time later, when a compilation of Lucille Bogan’s complete recordings was released on LP or CD. But I’m not sure when that would have been.

So maybe The Stones heard it, or maybe they just stumbled upon the same figure of speech as Bogan had in 1935.

What? Really?? That’s not just about cannibalism?

We may need a whole new thread just to handle the Zappa entries.

Flywheel officially wins the thread!

Sodomy, from the musical Hair. Saw it live in 1968 as a freshman in HS at the Blackstone in Chicago. Had to look up all the words in a dictionary later.

It certainly was. I had (and still have) it on an LP titled Copulatin’ Blues. Although there is no date on the LP itself, Google says it was released in 1976.

super fun thread. This isn’t the first thread on this subject is it? and where can i find older threads re this topic?

I can’t find anything on-line, but I heard it was about Cindy Wilson taking some time off from the band.

For really obvious lyrics, “Put It In My Mouth,” Akinyele.

For metaphor, “Like A Prayer” by Madonna.
