Sex in music

I am working on a paper and am looking for examples of sex in music lyrics. I would like to have several songs from a vast time period (say the 1940’s to present) to look at for examples. I know that they made refrences to sex in earlier songs, but don’t know any off the top of my head and would love to get your help.
AND as a bonus, if you are so inclined, it would be great if you could/would post a link to the lyrics.
Thanks so much!

Google is your friend.

Well, I’d start with “I Want Your Sex” by George Michaels. Can’t get any more blatant than that.

Good luck with your paper!

I am not sure if this is what you mean, but in my opinion one of the most underrated “sex in a song” songs from the 80s is Rick Springfield- Affair of the Heart. Even the music itself sounds like sex…

I was a child at the time and one of my friend’s parents banned the listening to that whole album in their home because it was “too erotic”.

L’histoire de Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg.

It’s French. Of course.

If it was released intoday’s USA, he’d probably be arrested, once they figured out what the lyrics meant.

“Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby” - Salt ‘n’ Pepa

“Paradise By the Dashboard Light” - Meatloaf

“I Touch Myself” - Divinyls

“Sex and Candy” - Marcy Playground

“Makin’ Whoopee” - Ella Fitzgerald

“Bad Touch” - Bloodhound Gang

and, of course, Prince - “Cream,” “Gett Off,” “Jack U Off,” “Head,” “Come,” “Let’s Pretend We’re Married,” “Ripopgodazippa,” “Insatiable,” “Mad Sex,” “Freaks On The Side,” “Blue Light,” “Darling Nikki,” “Hot Wit U,” “Slow Love,” “Little Red Corvette,” “International Lover,” “It,” “Do Me, Baby,” “Satisfied,” “Erotic City,” “Hot Thing,” “I Wanna Melt With U,” “Orgasm.”

Going back to the start of your time period, Glenn Miller’s theme “In the Mood” – what they were in the mood for was not playing xroquet!

“All I Want to Do (Is Make Love to You)” (Dusty Springfield?)

Half of early Led Zeppelin.

“Sex (I’m A …)” - Berlin

It’s a classic.

I know it’s a typo, but it makes me think of some dirty croquet game that you’d play at an orgy or something.

French you say? I’d still like his chances. :stuck_out_tongue:

In the spirit of the OP, I’ll put up Frank Sinatra “Making Whoopee”

Sure you can: Lucille Bogan’s “Shave 'em Dry.” I can’t link to the lyrics here; it’s like linking to “The Ballad of Eskimo Nell.” Not Safe for Work doesn’t even begin to cover it.

It dates from 1935.

Check out Hank Ballard and the Midnighters. The “Annie” songs are classic. There was “Work With Me Annie”(1954) (“Work with me Annie, don’t be ashamed/Work with me Annie, call my name.”)

Then the follow up (also 1954), “Annie Had a Baby.” (“Annie had a baby/Can’t work no more”):

“Now I know and it’s understood/that’s what happens when the gettin’ gets good!”

Incidentally, Hank Ballard cut a record in 1959 that turned out to be rather significant a year later when Chubby Checker covered it - it was called “The Twist!”

“I wanna fuck you” by Akon

Bessie Smith – Wild About That Thing (1929) and I Need a Little Sugar in My Bowl (1931)

Well, both “jazz” and “rock and roll” started off as euphemisms for sex - what more do you want?

Little Richard’s Good Golly Miss Molly:

Go back past a certain time, and most of the obvious double entendres will be in blues lyrics.

I Wanna Sex You Up - Color Me Badd
Gloria - The Doors

Twist by Goldfrapp (video here) is specifically about oral sex, but sex nonetheless.

Remember things like “Make Love,” had a different meaning back in the 40s. Jack Benny and Burns and Allen used it all the time. But “make love,” referred to simply kissing someone

The running joke was that George Burns kissed Gracie on the forehead and she thought this was the greatest thing, 'cause no one else did it. They all “made love on the lips.” She’d referr to George making love on her forehead.

It sounds really dirty but it meant kiss back then.

A lot of stuff by Lords of Acid, but some include “Lover”, “Rough Sex”, “Pussy,” etc. Very NSFW, but you can find the songs on YouTube if you want to search further.
