Come on… NASA are the ‘scientists’ who connect their most critical computers to the Internet and then wonder why they get hacked!
I have to say, I never really liked NES or SNES, but then , that’s probably because I had a Sega Genesis.
Genesis had ‘Strider’, ‘Toejam and Earl’, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ and numerous other ‘head-trip’ games, that kept me and my friends up all night while I was at University.
Well, I was speaking metaphorically, but when was the last time you launched a shuttle into space.
The last time I played ‘Space Shuttle’ on my old 286.
NES was the best sytem ever–the overall quality and fun-factor of the games has yet to be matched. That said, Chrono Trigger is the second-best RPG ever. Now I’m sure I will get called a blasphemer, but I’m still right.
Shining Force frickin rocks on the Genesis!!!
Id say NES or SNES for the nostalgia factor (I never had a 2600). PSX has some great games, but the system itself is kind of “ehh” (although it is like 5 years old). I hate the PSX controllers especially, and the graphics are nothing to write home about. What makesd the PSX good are the games.
Hey ** Jeff, ** not to be snooty, but * Coleco * was judged best waaaaaayyyyyy back when by Consumer Reports (good ol days), and I still play the games to it, when not using the old Nintendo. Though, I have to admit, all the sports games on Colecovision mucked BIG time, Playstation is the best for those.
when does the playstation 2 come out in the US?
I was told in a Toys R Us, that it is coming out in October. Our playstation has lost its sound, and I was going to replace it with the same old thing, till I found out the new one is on the horizon and bearing down on us soon enough.
And it glows blue!!! Wheee!!
I probably read too much about this crap…

I’m gonna put my money on the ole Xbox for Uber system.
For the price your gonna have to pay for the PS2’s hard drive add on and the cable modem peripheral your going to be paying something like 350 bucks. The Xbox looks to be about twice as powerful, hard drive & cable modem hookup included, for about 200.
To compare the stats you can got to http://xbox.ign.com/hardware/168.html for the xbox and compare that to PS2’s stats at: http://ps2.ign.com/hardware/164.html
Ps2 has also had bunches of glitches over in Japan so far as well (overheating, faulty dvd drives, etc) which they’re SUPPOSED to fix prior to US shipping.
Course all this doesn’t mean a thing without great games. Which remains to be seen for the Xbox, although lots of big name game publishers have already signed on. The general vibe I’ve read about the PS2 is that it’s been over hyped and under delivered so far. We’ll see I guess.
Maybe I’ll just go dust off my old Vectrex system. Anyone remember that one?

**IMHO…Although I agree that the NES had excellent games, I would (personally) disqualify it because of Nintendo’s evil business practices. Don’t get me wrong, most of my favorite games were on that system. However, I have always hated their smug attitude. So instead, I throw my vote to the Atari 2600. Man, I remember all the cool games I had for that system back in the day… Spy Hunter, Dig Dug, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Pole Position… and so many more that influenced my nerdiness throughout the years. **
I 'll throw my vote for the 2600 in here, based on my love of two games: Combat, the best game to involve tanks with bouncing shells, and Pitfall, the game that had the single best sound effect of all time (the swinging over the tar pit sound).
thanks for the info Anti Pro.
i was also thinking about this… why do video game systems come out in japan and then a long time later in the US?
why do they make us wait so long for these things?
