Best way to monitor a thread??

I subscribed to one the other day and it didn’t seem to work.

What I often do is search my own posts. If that is a good and common technique, maybe a couple of additions could be made to the results …

  1. the number of that post to compare with the total number of replies currently

  2. the time/date stamp of the most recent reply

How didn’t it work?
What were you expecting to happen and what did or didn’t happen?

I’m set to automatically subscribe to all threads I post to plus I can subscribe to other threads at will. I also choose not to receive emails.
From there, whenever I want to check on my threads, I click on “User CP” and it’ll show me if any of my threads have been posted to.
If you choose to receive emails, you’ll get an email each time someone posts to one of your threads.

You can either set it globally in the UserCP or in each thread you respond to – click the “Go Advanced” button under the Quick Reply window at the bottom of the page and then select the kind of notification you want.

I used to get emails until one fine day when the SDMB stopped playing nicely with Comcast (all mail from the SDMB suddenly went straight to Comcast’s spam filter and never made it to me.) Now I subscribe to the threads and check them using User CP as described above.

If your problem is that you aren’t receiving the emails, you might want to give that a try.

I like Tapatalk (if you have a tablet/smartphone), because you can just go to “Participated” and find all your threads with posts/subscriptions.

The “subscribe” feature doesn’t work quite how I’d expect it to either.

I subscribe to a thread and new replies will show up in my user CP. However, sometimes they disappear from the list for no apparent reason.

For example, I’ll click on the user CP and decide not to read all of the new posts. If I leave the page and return later, sometimes the ones I didn’t click on will still be there, but other times they won’t.

Is there a time limit for how long they stay in the user CP list of new posts? I, too, would like a way to follow threads more reliably.

I think User CP only shows new posts since your last login. It doesn’t keep track of if you read them or not.

There’s a link below that list which takes you to all subscribed posts. You can use that if you didn’t get to all the new posts before they disappeared.

I think that was the problem, thanks!

As for my suggestion re add’l info in the search for posts to compare a specific post with subsequent activity … seems like worthwhile info don’t you think?

The list is activity since you were last active. Below that list is a link to “show all subscribed threads”. That will list every thread you’ve ever subscribed.
