In my possession i have 50ml bottles of the following ABsolut flavoured Vodkas; Citron, Kurant, Mandarin, Vanilia & Raspberri.
Now i quite like Vanilla on ice, and Kurant goes well in Sprite
The other’s however i have no real experience with so have no idea what a good combo is.
I generally shy away form flavoured Vodka on ice as the taste is just too artificial.
So if you have any ideas or experience let me know what works well!
I’d recommend Schweppes Russian (or generic substitute) to go with the Kurant, which is how I always used to drink it. So often in fact, that I am only now getting to where I can stand the smell of the stuff.
For the Raspberri, I’d recommend trying plain mineral water. It works great with Bacardi Razz, and should be nice with the vodka aswell. May be worth trying with any of the flavours, if you enjoy flavoured mineral water.
The Vanilla (although I realize you just said you were fine with it on ice) is very good with Coke – it gets a cream soda type flavor that I think is fairly unusual in a cocktail and quite tasty. It’s a little heavy to drink all the time, in my opinion, but nice for a change of pace.
The Citron I like with cranberry juice … it’s very subtle but the citrus flavor gives the cranberry flavor a boost.
The Kurant makes a surprisingly good twist on the classic vodka and OJ.
Also, the Raspberri makes a very nice berry-lemonade martini if you shake it with limoncello and ice, poured into a sugar-rimmed glass and topped up with a little lemonade (or just mix it with regular lemonade if the martini is too frou-frou).
I am told (though I don’t know that it’s true) that the Cosmo was invented for Absolute Citron. So I would say you should make a cosmo with that, just add cranberry.
One of my closest female friends loves Mandarin with club soda. I think it tastes like diet Hansens orange soda, and not in a good way. But if you are into that sort of thing you might like it.
I like to make simple syrups (boil up equal parts water and sugar just until the sugar dissolves) with flavors that will mix well with the flavored vodka. My favorite is the Gingertini–throw some fresh ginger in your syrup, let it cool, strain it, add a little to some vanilla vodka in a shaker full of ice, shake and strain into a martini glass.
Vanilla syrup (just add some vanilla extract) or lemon syrup (add some lemon juice and zest) could be used with the others the same way. Have fun playing around with it!
