Best 'Yeah!' in rock and roll

Gotta be that Four Insects hit from the “The Hatrocks and the Gruesomes” episode of The Flintstones.

Remember when they sent out one of those space probes, Voyager or Pioneer or whatever it was, and it included a picture of a man and woman and a diagram of our solar system?

They should have included a recording of the “Yeah” from “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” Then the aliens would have thought, “This species really fuckin’ rocks.” They would have thought that even if they did not previously have a concept of “fuckin” or “rocks.” It’s that good a yeah.

I love that one. That whole song is just silly, over-the-top rocking goodness. I finally introduced my wife to the song the other day when we were in the car at 65 mph so she couldn’t get away. She made fun of me for lip-synching the “Yeah”.

Anyway, the Who are the best Yeah-sters.

I’m gonna nth Won’t Get Fooled Again, in part due to the whole David-Caruso-puts-on-his-sunglasses-makes-a-joke-cue-theme-song thing The Soup always jokes about.

The Cult- King Contrary Man

Must be a hundred soul saving Yeah Yeah Yeah’s in that song…

It’s not technically a “yeah” but from Led Zeppelin:

“Way down inside…
Woman…you need…
LOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”

Worst song goes to Usher’s “Yeah!”

Oh I have one.

Queen’s Princes of the Universe

“I am immortal…I have inside me blood kings (YEAH!!! YEAH!!!”)

Yeah, yeah oh yeah,
what condition my condition was in.

I don’t believe so. In fact, that is an integral part of the Rob Zombie drinking game.

I’m not sure but I THINK it’s Flea who yells “Aw shit, YEAH” in the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ version of “Love Rollercoaster”. Then after the first chorus there’s a part where Anthony’s like, “Aw yeah yeah the love rollercooooaaaster…”
In fact, I’m listening to it right now.

“Won’t Get Fooled Again” is the winner, but honorable mention goes to the "Yeah"s in “In Bloom” by Nirvana, just because they are uniquely unenthusiastic. “Knows not what it means when I say…yeah”…

Pearl Jam - Porch

You can close and lock the thread now.

I like these Yeh Yehs from this UK #1 from Georgie Fame in 1965; the song finishes on a good one at about 3.00 btw… the rest is DJ chat and a chart run down.

I agree with the #1 choice, of course, but as a second, I’d like to submit the “Yeah!” thrown in by the Beastie Boys between “Girls” and “Fight For Your Right to Party” on Ill Communication. It seems to have exactly the right amount of enthusiam and lecherousness in it, as if to say, “Yeah, YOU know what I mean!”

No love for Mony Mony?

Grrrr, I couldn’t find a video of this to link to, but if you watch VH1 Classic for any length of time you’ll see their commercial made up entirely of a video compilation of the great “Yeahs” of all time. Actually, I think there are at least two different versions of it.

My personal favorite is Bruce Dickinson’s “Yeaaaaaaaaah!!!” near the beginning of “The Number of the Beast” (which is in the commercial).

Chorus of Devo’s “Uncontrollable Urge”:

“Superhero” by Jane’s Addiction: The sneering “oh yeahs” at the end make it the perfect theme song for Entourage.

Surely, you mean Zander and Nielson’s "Yeah Yeah"s from “Come On, Come On”, not “Yeah Yeah”, yeah?

Certainly the quintessential “call and response” yeahs.

I’ve always enjoyed the study in yeah dualism from The Cars’ first album – Ric Ocasek’s yeahs on “My Best Friend’s Girl” followed up by Benjamin Orr’s yeahs on “Just What I Needed.”

But “Won’t Get Fooled Again” gets my vote here too.

BTW, this clocks in on my iPod with a mere fifty seconds left on a song that runs 8:31. Yet some people remember this moment as near the beginning?

Let’s not forget Gary “Pedophile” Glitter’s Rock-n-Roll #whatever:
Da dun dunnnn dunnn - yeah!

There’s always Iggy Pop’s primal YEEEAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH! at the start of TV Eye, from the 1978 live album of the same name.
