I think those believing Mrs. K would keep the money successfully are way off. That might be what she thinks, but part of the point of taking the deal was that the authorities would eventually track down the money anyway, and if that happened then she would also go to prison. Didn’t Saul even say something about what’s the point of having all that money you can’t spend?
I think that plot line is in place to show us things about Jimmy, not to keep this couple around for the duration of the series as some big part of the show. I wouldn’t be surprised if they show up again later in the series even after their case is finished, but it will just be a nice little callback to this part of the series rather than an integral part of the plot.
I’m sure I’m wrong here, as I don’t pay too close attention to the details, but didn’t the Kettlemans embezzle far more than the amount they cut the deal to return?
That fucking Mrs. Kettleman. What a Black Widow. I used to work for a couple gals just like her.
I love how Mrs. Kettleman is so completely in control of her husband. Even in the scene in the diner with Jimmy, while he (the husband) was delivering the one line she allowed him to speak, she was mouthing the words along with him, as if it was a speech she made him memorize.
And I felt bad for their innocent kids who took shit from them about leaving a pile of cash sitting on the RC car out by the pool.
It didn’t seem terribly smart of Mike to leave DNA (apples) and fingerprints all over the place. All kinds of things could have gone wrong in that house.
I noticed it! The camera had lingered on the WANTED posters, and I was studying them trying to figure out if I recognized any of them from Breaking Bad. When he turned up in the men’s room and knocked into Jimmy I laughed.
The same actor was actually in Breaking Bad as well (I learned this from the podcast - I’m not that eagle eyed myself). He’s one of the workers in the junkyard in the “magnets” scene, the rightmost of the ones doing a fistbump thing in this clip.
My theory only pertains to what Mrs. K *thought *she would be able to away with. And yes, Jimmy said she couldn’t spend it, but Saul might have suggested that buying a small cash based business was an option. Maybe she finds her very own ‘Saul’ to do the dirty work.
And it wasn’t just the money laundering that landed Walt in NH. Mrs. K wouldn’t have to deal with any of those other factors.
Good point. Walt didn’t have anyone watching him from the get go like Mrs K. would. But, still, she doesn’t strike me as a doper, so I bet she didn’t give it this much thought.
I didn’t have any angst with this at all. He spilled the coffee, he lied about the notebook, he knew that Mike had murdered two cops; in my mind the relationship was fully established.
What I’m lost on is this: Why did Mike break into the cop car? Because I thought he was dropping the notebook on the floor or tucking it between the seat cushions, so that NewGuy would find it when he noticed it missing. What did he do in there?
Oh, man, this has my head spinning. Do we know for sure Chuck isn’t a StepDad rather than a brother? Or maybe Jimmy is the younger step-brother and Chuck feels bad about the way Dad treated Jimmy and his Mom?
Or if Chuck is a full brother, wouldn’t it be just a kick if the StepDad was Hamlin? Or maybe it’s HIS Dad? Hamlin Sr? That would explain so much.
Agreed. It also serves as irrefutable evidence that he’s telling the truth about all of the elder law work. For some reason Chuck feels responsible for Jimmy’s failures (both moral and professional.)
Re: Mrs. K - I still can’t decide if she knew about the embezzlement while it was happening, or if she just went into genius-denial mode once it came to light. She seems demanding and money-grubbing enough to have driven him to it without necessarily master-minding anything.
