We have an omnibus thread but because this show is bound to generate a lot of commentary, it easily justifies individual episode threads. That makes the discussion much easier to keep track of, since everyone is talking about the same episode in each thread, rather than several discussion threads about several points in the season going at once. So if no one minds, we’ll treat the omnibus thread as the episode 1 and 2 premier thread, and then start individual episode threads from here on out.
I’m starting this one a day early just to try to get some traction on that. The first episode of the season premiered on Sunday night, but it’ll be Mondays from here on out.
Another great episode. I had figured that Saul would be against shaking down the Kettlemans at first, but something would happen and he’d give in and call Nacho.
But it’s interesting how he’s trying to be a good person and it not always working well for him. He could have just called his lawyer friend, and left it at that. But he still couldn’t sleep, so he called the Kettlemans too. And it was hilarious that his “robot sex” voice made it so it was impossible for him to be understood and he had to give it up.
I wonder what Nacho will do now. It wasn’t a setup by Saul, but Nacho could still be angry with him. And after searching Nacho’s van and finding blood, the police probably have their eye on him more than before.
I think the doll was just something he thought up as something that might convince the police (but ended up not doing so because it really was weak).
His real reason for thinking they kidnapped themselves was the fact that they disappeared immediately after he warned them, combined with the fact that Nacho didn’t kidnap them.
Yeah, that’s what I thought too. His first thought was that Nacho kidnapped them. But since he didn’t, and didn’t tell anyone about his plan, and didn’t see anyone else do it, and they disappeared immediately after being warned, then guessing that they kidnapped themselves isn’t a crazy leap.
And he had to convince himself that the self kidnapping was true. It was the only way out of his predicament for Saul. His own desperation lead to his conviction on the matter. When we are desperate we can convince ourselves of anything. Though only rarely does this mode of reasoning turn out to be correct.
edit: as I re-read the above it vaguely reminded me of the scene in BB with Walt in the gymasium. The scene where he is giving his “pep talk” to students about the plane crash.
I assumed they ran right after it was revealed they disappeared (I actually thought they would be seen hiding in the boat.) so I don’t think it was a huge leap.
It does seem weird that they have the stolen money in cash.
