Better Call Saul 2.07 "Inflatable" 3/28/16

I do hope we start seeing more Saul and less Jimmy soon. I agree Saul was a more one.dimensional character in Breaking Bad but better entertainment value.

Kim is stealing the show too.

The scene with the nerds seemed to be setting up a future Saul Goodman commercial.

Yeah, I also saw it as a foreshadowing of his sleazy ambulance chasing commercials in BB. I also think that the flappy armed inflatable things are leading him towards BB’s ridiculous inflatable Statue of Liberty.

I think Saul is still off in the future. I think he will try to make it work as Jimmy McGill, but will be pressured by HHM (particularly brother Chuck) to stop using the name. This happened last year prior to the business he brought in.

You’re right, Saul is in the future. I mispoke there. davidm said it best (sleazy ambulance chasing commercial).

If the WM thing isn’t going to work on a card as a partnership because Kim would rather be associated with her own separate firm, then there’s no reason for him to be tied to the McGill name, which was a problem in the past. Since he is already creating his new persona with the gaudy suits and what not, I think he’s also going to go for the name change at the same time. 'Cause why not?

It also makes sense given that we’re ending the second season that Saul finally appears. I’m thinking two seasons as Jimmy and another one or two (fingers crossed) as Saul would be a good balance.

They didn’t try to stop him using his name as his name (I don’t think a judge would allow that), just as a firm name. I have a suspicion that he’s going to try a name with McGill in it one more time before he decides to go a different (probably Saul Goodman) route, and it will end with some further HHM sparring. It might just be a ploy to get a judge to issue a legal name change (not sure if that’s hard in NM). We never really saw Saul doing stuff alone in BB, so people calling him Saul were all in a work context. it will be interesting to see if he embraces “Saul Goodman” as his personal name, or if he’s still Jimmy off-hours.

As far as D&M goes, I think Howard’s anger was at being blindsided by something Kim should have warned him about, he would have had a prepared response for the Jimmy commercial. He might be angry (or concerned about her judgement) at Kim still hanging around Jimmy after his antics, but it might just be something different. Also, this episode is only a day or two after Jimmy gets fired, Cliff may not have said anything to Howard yet because he thinks he needs to cool off before talking about it (he seems like a nice person to me) or because he just hasn’t had a chance (he could be busy fixing Sandpiper or with his other work). Cliff (and the other partners) may decide it’s his own damn fault for not firing Jimmy when he should have. Howard may be pissed but hasn’t had a chance to talk to Chuck yet, and doesn’t want to go against Chuck’s ‘pardon’ on his own.

I don’t really think it needs much explanation, especially since the next episode is going to be Kim leaving anyway.

Because that was before Chuck stabbed him in the back. Now he would probably keep McGill for no other reason than it pisses off Chuck.

At the time, he thought he was pushing off Hamlin. He hadn’t realized that Chuck was the puppetmaster yet.

I’m guessing we won’t see his official transformation into Saul Goodman until at least the 3rd season. Maybe even later.
