Better Call Saul Episodes 1 and 2

This one is pretty funny, complete with real-world LOL’s, especially at the reactions of the kids as Saul/Jimmy was negotiating their fate.

I’m not really sure what’s going on with him and the parking attendant (yes, I know who he is in BB). If Jimmy isn’t getting enough stamps, you’d think he’d be more careful to get enough in the future.

First episode was very good.

The second episode… Not so much, I think. A little too much filler material and overlong montages. I’ll definitely keep watching, though.

Lemon zest for garnish, never lemon juice. He’s like an animal in the fucking jungle.

I’m liking it. The first episode introduced us to Jimmy McGill, while the 2nd one demonstrates how his development into Saul Goodman is catalyzed.

The Mrs. couldn’t watch the sentence being carried out on his two skateboard clients, though. But I was impressed with how Jimmy/Saul got the judge to modify the sentence in the first place. Bold move on his part, to argue with the judge.

Loving this so far.

I caught AMC’s broadcast of Breaking Bad prior to Better Call Saul, where Saul and Walt where in the basement of the vacuum shop. I forgot that Saul actually said “end up managing a Cinnabon in Omaha.”

Does anyone know if that was Badger in the background who got up and left in the middle of the trial? It kind of looked like him but I couldn’t tell. It was right when the prosecutor was moving the TV.

I knew who Tuco was, but totally had forgotten his name. The little call outs are good, and don’t distract. I never would have remembered the nail salon as one Jessie bought.

I agree, very funny at times, and very tense at others. I liked the scene at the bar, with the music that started getting messed up as Jimmy kept looking at the breadsticks being broken. It was very well done.

And Bob Odenkirk has been great so far. Great with the speeches, and the funny parts, but also with showing the sadness and desperation Jimmy has.

Since Jimmy keeps getting upset with the parking attendant, I’d guess that one day they’ll have it out, and Jimmy will find out what background that Mike has, and realize that he could be a valuable partner with his new dealings with presumably the new clientele he’ll be getting in future episodes.

I remembered that. That was what made the opening so funny for me. At the time he said it I thought that “managing a Cinnabon in Omaha” was just his way of saying that he was probably going to end up at some dead end job in the middle of nowhere. I didn’t know that he meant it literally (the writers might not even have intended it to be literal at the time).

Unless I’m mistaken, Jessie never bought it, Saul just tried to convince him to (as a money laundry).

Talking about money laundering, those two skateboarders seem like they may be the type who are into laser tag.

My intent was to have one thread to bind them all, so as not to clutter up CS, but I don’t make rules around here.

Sounds good to me. I was just curious. I nearly started an episode 2 thread, but this works.

I was just reading the user comments on IMDB. One fool posted that he gave up after 90 seconds because “black and white, and no dialog”.

I was trying to remember if Tuco’s guys were guys that we had seen before. Nacho, the guy that came to Jimmy’s office is a new guy I think (although if you watch Orphan Black, you’ll recognize him). But the other two guys No-Doze and Gonzo, were Tuco’s henchmen in Breaking Bad. I’m not sure how we’re dealing with Breaking Bad spoilers, I’d hope open spoilers, but just in case…
No-Doze, the guy that Tuco told to “Stop helping” is the guy that Tuco beat to death for telling Walt and Jesse to remember who they were dealing with. So he obviously never learned his lesson.

Gonzo, the fat guy, is the one who dies trying to hide NoDoze’s corpse under a stack of cars.
On the one hand, I wouldn’t take it too seriously since it’s just random comment on the internet. OTOH, I have a coworker that won’t watch any movie recommendation I give him if it’s in B&W because ‘how good could it be if it’s in black and white?’.

I noticed that. When Tuco said “stop helping” I literally laughed out loud. I thought that was a brilliant piece of writing. The show stands on it’s own, but if you’ve seen BB, it’s a nice easter egg of sorts for the die hard fans.

So…how long 'til we meet Uncle Tio again? Badger, Skinny Pete? Maybe even Spooge?

Y’know what would blow my mind?

JANE.

I suspect there will be almost everyone from BB at some point. I mean, why not?

And Jane’s father.

I suppose it would start to seem contrived past a point but all of these people were involved with drugs in some way either directly or indirectly, and Saul is about to become involved in that world.

What about Jesse’s drug counselor? Saul could be his lawyer after he backs over his daughter.

Various cameos will be a lot of fun. Like when Jimmy/Saul gets his car washed. And deals with Walt.

Walt had a point when he told Tuco “you’re an insane, degenerate piece of filth and you deserve to die”, but bless that boy’s heart- he loved his abuelita.

Good acting by (the actor playing) Tuco: it’s the same psychotic character but before the meth has kicked him into the next level of crazy.

Did anybody notice if there were pictures of the twins (Tuco’s cousins- not the skateboard skammers) anywhere in the old lady’s house?

I wonder if we’ll see Tio Hector in this series. If we do I hope it’s before the wheelchair.

And I’m on board so far. The show isn’t great yet but it has the potential.

A pity that Garry Marshall isn’t involved or there’d be a dance tie-in called The Slippin’ Jimmy. I’m wondering if his slipping is what gave his brother his first fortune (personal injury claims and all).

And what exactly was the $26,000 check for? There’s no way his partners could expect to buy him out for that little, but apparently Saul/Jimmy cashing it would somehow obligate him to something he didn’t want to agree to.
