Valid point.
Air Force guy, maybe?
Unless she posts a lot online under her real name, she’s probably not going to get a hit in Google back in 2003, and most people didn’t back in the pre-facebook days. Same thing with government databases, it used to be a lot harder to do a multi-county or multi-state search for someone, and it’s not 100% reliable even now. If she went into seclusion after the split from Chuck and got an unlisted number (or just stuck to cell phones), she might be hard enough to track down to warrant having a PI do it. And since Mike was in Chuck’s house anyway, he could save a lot of time and effort.
Doesn’t have to be her though, I’d call it a strong guess.
Maybe it’s his psychiatrist?
Also valid. I forgot it was 2003. What year is it for Gene, I wonder?
OH! Not his shrink, if he even has one, since confidentiality would probably keep out, but maybe the doctor or professor he was corresponding with about his condition WAY back the first time we saw Jimmy go to his house. He mentioned that way back when Jimmy was first restocking the cooler and bringing him papers.
Slippin Jimmy wants/needs to know if Chuck has another copy, or maybe has the original, of the tape in question. He also wants to have photographic evidence of how ain’t-quite-right-in-the-head Chuck lives. Things that might come in handy later at an official hearing.
Kim let her fingers do the walking and found the handyman company Chuck would certainly have hired to repair the damage to Chuck’s property. Replacing the handyman allowed Team Jimmy to gather the photo evidence. Team Jimmy will now have to find a way to introduce the photos into Jimmy’s hearing. Afterall, this is a hearing about Jimmy, not Chuck. Will Chuck’s attempt to play the tape allow Jimmy to introduce Chuck’s life style to the judge/jury? How will the judge react to the fact that Chuck is a looney tune in real life?
And the dance over the language of the damaged tape was interesting. It wasn’t until after the pre-hearing had ended and Kim met with Chuck and Howard in the hall that Chuck admitted that he still had the original tape. Bingo.

Let’s get down to it. We’re here to finalize the pre-prosecution diversion for James Morgan McGill.
Mr James McGill has signed a contract waving his rights to a speedy trial and presentment of his case within the statute of limitations.
The terms of the deal:
Report to your pre-prosecution service officer
Community service hours will be assigned
Maintain lawful employment
Must only associate with law-abiding citizens
If he violates the terms of the agreement, or is arrested for any infraction, the crimes to which he has confessed here will be prossecuted to the full extend of the law in addition to any new charges.
And his confession will be referred to New Mexico Bar Association.*
Assuming, of course, that Jimmy is still considered guilty after Chuck’s lifestyle becomes public.
*712. Pretrial Diversion
A. Divertees are initially selected by the U.S. Attorney based on the eligibility criteria stated in USAM 9-22.100:

Well, from looking at the BB Wiki, Saul went into hiding at the start of Granite State 4-5 months before Walt decided to leave hiding at the end of the episode, so that puts his disappearance in April or May of 2010. He’s been working the job for long enough that it’s routine, so the earliest he could be is summer of 2010. But there’s not a direct clue whether Felina (Sept 4-7 2010) has happened yet in the Gene timeline, and it would be neat to see Gene react to Walt hitting the national news one last time. However, in his first episode there was snow, and Omaha doesn’t usually get snow before November (and the earliest on record was at the end of September), so that means he must be after the actual end of Breaking Bad, so at least winter 2010, but no real upper limit, it could easily be 2011 or 2012. I don’t think it would jump all the way to the modern day, but it’s not impossible.
IIRC, Breaking Bad was supposed to have taken place 2008-2010, so, Gene is living in Omaha sometime after that. I get the impression it isn’t too long after, as he’s still spooked by cops and gangster lookalikes.
But they really aged him up, so I tend to think it may in fact be the present day. In fact, the different times we have seen him may each be a year apart.
Given that “Gene” is working as the manager of that Cinnabon, I assume he’s been working there long enough to have earned the promotion.
I dunno, I think a lot of times people start at manager level without ever being at that low level that’s reserved for teenagers and deadenders.
ETA: I do obviously agree with you that he has been there for a while, but I think he has been a manager the whole time. I’m not sure a Cinnabon would hire someone his age at any other position.
I was under the impression that he owns it. As far as I know Saul got away with a lot of money. He isn’t working there for a paycheck, he’s working there under an assumed identity to avoid going to jail.
From the penultimate episode of Breaking Bad, “Granite State”, Saul Goodman says “If I’m lucky, in a month from now, best-case scenario, I’m managing a Cinnabon in Omaha.”
Which is why I’m even more worried now about what horrible thing will break them apart…
Yeah, could be. He could both own and manage it.
You do of course have to handwave away the idea that he would actually tell Walt the exact thing he was going to do and the exact location. That would never happen.
Of course. Think of it as a callout to BrBa.
Totally. Almost like an inside joke.
That was just a fun little conceit for the writers. Kind of like, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away…
Doorhinge, that was a spectacular analysis. Thanks for taking the time to post it. This story is really getting interesting.
