Better Call Saul (Season 3)

Well, he is and he isn’t. Part of him has always been Saul on the inside, back when Howard called him Charlie Hustle and Chuck called him Slippin’ Jimmy. The shadow-self has always been there. Obviously, he can’t become Saul Goodman, lawyer, until the one year probation is over, but he’s definitely closer to the orange shirts and lime green socks.

I wouldn’t say that it’s been too long - I like the three seasons we’ve got, but I do agree that it’s time to move on from Jimmy to the real Saul Goodman stuff. I wonder if the giant constitution on the wall will be a part of something less sleazy that fell apart.

That’s a very good question - it would certainly fit in with the character to have it be a remnant of one of his earlier “projects” that he repurposed.

I’m wondering what they will do with Gus in the next season? His story is nearly completed. The animosity with the Salamancas seems like it should be over. Nacho seems like the sort who might take his victory and leave the scene entirely.

I suppose they might invent a conflict between Gus & Nacho, but that doesn’t seem natural. I don’t see such a conflict working for Gus - and I don’t see Gus doing anything risky that doesn’t benefit him.

Somehow I don’t think things will end well for Nacho. Gus…he’s too good of a character to just leave alone. I don’t know what comes next, but I suspect it will have a lot to do with Chuck’s will. It is a show about the law and its many variations, after all.

There’s lots of room for story with Gus and Mike working together to hurt the cartel, secure Gus’s operation, and get to know each other. Mike hasn’t even killed anyone in cold blood yet, so there’s a good bit of change for him. The animosity with the Salamancas and the cartel in general doesn’t end until Gus ends in BB, so I think there’s a lot of room for conflict there.

Since Chuck was divorced, and despised Jimmy and everything he stood for, the only thing still in his life he seemed to care about was HHM.

Makes me wonder if HHM is the sole beneficiary of Charles McGill.

There’s still a lot of development for Gus. He’s still a coke distributor, not yet a meth manufacturer (although the pieces are coming together for that). The Salamancas aren’t done, we know Tuco is out of prison and a pretty big deal by the time BB starts. We’re not even sure that Hector is ready for the wheelchair yet.

The law firm he was suing? Somehow, I don’t see that.

They were all in good standing until a few days before the fire, in his state of mind, he probably wouldn’t have thought of changing or been able to change his will.

I’m not saying it is going to play out this way, but by the time he had fallen out with HHM, he probably couldn’t have changed his will had he thought of it.

While anything is possible in TV, in an actual real life scenario, If Chuck had recently updated his will, could his (now) well publicised mental illness be good grounds to successfully challenge the will? The whole ‘being of sound mind’ bit?

AFAIK generally that only works as a challenge if the person is so out of it they’re clearly not functional and the change is inconsistent with basic sense, and usually those last minute changes involve someone else ‘helping’ write the changes to their own benefit. If Jimmy was trying to contest a change in the will that wrote him out, it’s doubtful that it would go anywhere because writing out the brother who committed a felony against you makes sense, and Chuck was clearly a functional adult at the time. HHM would have a much better case, since the only reason to write them out is Chuck’s ill-thought lawsuit, and Chuck would have done the rewrite within the week or so between HHM retirement and killing himself, when he was clearly in much worse shape.

Howard as executor of Chuck’s estate seems pretty likely, which could put him into a weird conflict of interest spot also.

Surely Rebecca will be the sole beneficiary.

A short bonus clip was recently revealed. I think it’s brilliant. Not sure how to go here, so I’ll just spoiler the rest:

Clip Here Go to 4:36. All of the earlier material is crap. Kettlemans!!!

I saw that. Pretty witty!

One thing they point out in that commentary is that Mr. Kettleman should be getting out of prison in the next few months, before Jimmy’s suspension is up, so we could see them back in S4 of the show. It would be interesting if they ended up being part of his early “criminal” lawyer experience.

Ooof - could someone recap the Kettleman saga? I barely even remember them.

Here’s a link to the actual clip without the lame wannabe film commentator:

Thank You! Much better…

Here, this helps me - a short recap of every episode - Season 1 through 3:

Can’t wait to see the Kettlemans again!
