Better Call Saul season 6

Given that the camera really deliberately focused on the Nebraska plate, it’d be terrible writing and direction if those things AREN’T connected.

I would think and hope not.

The film crew I’m pretty sure did take Jimmy’s pictures with the mediator impersonator. They do look very like the photos the PI had (i.e. like surveillance photos). So one route for Jimmy to get them in front of Howard would be to have Howard’s PI share them. But that would imply that Jimmy and Kim not only know about the PI but were also somehow able to make him part of their elaborate plan, which is just too implausible. So this is really just my unjusitified paranoia.

Most likely they just arrive by means of the classic plain envelope shoved under the door, or maybe via one of Cliff’s lawyers.

Jimmy and Kim know that Howard is wise to their shenanigans because of the boxing match. Is that enough to make them guess he’d be doing something like hire a PI and that they might be in danger of being caught out? They obviously think that he won’t suspect the photos are anything but genuine but that seems like a gamble now they know he’s aware Jimmy’s targeting him for something.

I kind of want Howard to win this one. He deserves a break.

I would too, but when do the good guys ever win in the Breaking Bad / Better Caul Saul universe?

Though things going south could be the explanation they have for Kim not being in BB - she takes the fall for the entire plan, including the drugging of Howard and is spending some time in prison.

The coincidence of Jimmy just bumping into the judge, and just happening to overhear his name, didn’t bother anyone? I know, coincidences happen all the time in real life, but this seems like a very unlikely one, and a very large one to have happened exactly when it did. Very convenient–for the writers, that is.

Recall the scene in Breaking Bad’s “Granite State” episode: Jimmy (soon to be Gene) is observing Ed at work on his new identity, and asks, “What’s in Omaha?”

When Ed replies, “You. From now on”, Jimmy reacts with a vague displeasure, which I took to be the thought of leaving the warm climate of New Mexico.

But now, maybe not.

In the flashback to Kim’s escapades with her mother, it was clear she didn’t feel good about “getting away with it”. Would not be completely out of character for her to realise she is very much the driving force behind her and Jimmy’s current plot and perhaps take it upon herself to take the rap if they do get caught.

Was he there deliberately though, to spy on the judge and check the moustache accuracy?

That would be plausible. I agree that if that was the concept of that scene, they didn’t make it obvious.

They made rather a point about the happenstance of Jimmy overhearing the judge’s drink order, and his name being attached to it.

I’ll have to rewatch, but yeah if so it’s a bit contrived.
I get that Jimmy just hearing about the judge breaking his arm wouldn’t be very cinematic, but you can have Jimmy deliberately looking for the judge and the scene would play out much the same.

He seemed pretty surprised when he saw him. If he wanted to get a closer look, I’d think he would have just sat in the parking lot and watched him. Not hung around inside buying an $500 bottle of tequila (that might draw attention from others in the store).

What are you suggesting? That he doesn’t want to move back to his ex/late wife’s home state? If it was anything along those lines, I’d imagine a simple ‘I know people that live there’ would have been a good reason to find somewhere else for him.
On the other hand, we met Kim’s character long after Saul disappeared himself, so the writers could have just as easily picked somewhere else for her to be from.

If they just needed Saul to accidentally see him, I’m surprised they didn’t have him (or Kim) see him at a courthouse. Wouldn’t that have been the most plausible.
Given that they [the BCS producers] had to build or borrow a complete liquor store, hire a few speaking roles and a bunch of background/extras, I have to assume they wanted it to play out like this.
Maybe there’s another angle yet to be revealed. Security cameras seeing them both together?
Maybe, since this happened on the judge’s personal time and outside of the workplace, we’re going to find out the cast was just a prop or costume for something he’s doing (and if Jimmy/Kim get new pictures with a cast, they’re really in trouble).

Maybe it’s the other way around. Maybe, Howard figured out part of the plan, and purposely put the judge (or another lookalike) in a cast and purposely had him bump into Jimmy. Remember, Howard has a tail on Jimmy so setting up this accidental meet would be trivial.

Yeah the only thing that made me hesitate was when recounting what happened to Kim he said he saw the judge and then immediately mentioned that the moustache was fine.
But yeah, on balance, remembering that he was buying the vodka it seems more likely it was just a chance encounter.

Agree but they also wanted to show the tequila bottle stopper and tell us that it’s sharp so they could get it all done in one scene.

Gotta say, if all this complication turns out to be something they don’t elaborate on and fit neatly into some scheme, I’m going to be pissed.

I was thinking more that if Kim is dead, it would be painful for Jimmy to relocate there (but maybe not reason enough to ask Ed for another place). When my ex died, it was years before I was sufficiently over my grieving to visit her hometown.

I’m sure the entire production team is collectively quaking in their boots at the very thought of incurring your ire.

People on another board who live in Albuquerque (and one who works at the courthouse) say that it’s a very small world. And that area was close to the courthouse. According to them it would be a coincidence but not a very big one.

Jesus Christ.

Really disappointed that Jimmy had planted the PI. It’s just too much. Killed suspension of disbelief for me. Also, the timing doesn’t really make sense, does it? Both gathering people for reshoots and the drugs would have dried up without reshooting, right? Did the PI also have a bottle of the drugs to apply and Jimmy kept a backup just in case? Same with intercepting the phone call. Not a burner phone? Can intercept but not triangulate? 40 guys on one house and nobody anywhere else? Just way too convenient.

Felt sick to my stomach when Jimmy and Kim were making out during the teleconference. They’re sick people.

And that ending. I feel ill.

Well, my theory was wrong: the business card Jimmy gave Francesca while closing up his office before fleeing Albuquerque was definitely NOT for Howard.

Just realized the title: Plan and Execution
