Better Call Saul season 6

They were testing the drugs on Jimmy so Jimmy can know how it reacts. Doc was looking at his face to see if they had taken hold. They are going to slip Howard a mickey so he appears to be coked up at he hearing.

She is way more invested in the grift and screwing Howard. Also, if they get the Sandpiper money, she can do the same work as her own boss.

Yeah, Jimmy’s pupils were dilated wide as saucers with this stuff from the vet. The feeling is not quite “tripping balls” but more like “two Red Bulls on an empty stomach”. Whatever substance it is, it’s applied & absorbed through the skin and the tripper will look like they’re on cocaine/LSD/MDMA et al

Well, it would be worth a ~$1.7 million payout for Jimmy based on Sandpiper’s last offer. As opposed to holding out for potentially years waiting on a very good chance (but not an at all guaranteed one) of a much larger score. People have ruined lives for a lot less.

And they’re still slightly deluding themselves that Howard will just emerge from it ‘a little battered and bruised’. They think they are just cheating him out of a share of a larger Sandpiper settlement and making him look like a fool as a bit of petty revenge. They don’t seem to be really reckoning on the possibility that it may in fact destroy his life. Just speculatively Howard in his own way might be fragile - the whole Buddhism thing might be him maintaining and controlling his personal rather than professional stress. If his marriage and firm actually breaks maybe he goes down Chuck’s road. And that might actually break Kim.

I laughed in this week’s episode when Howard spent all that time making that coffee for her, with grinding the beans and frothing the milk and making the nice pattern in the foam, only for her to unceremoniously dump it in a travel mug.

Let’s not forget that Howard is also on to them; we didn’t see if the PD saw them go to the vet, and that would be a satisfying twist…
Jimmy and Kim have been pretty unsympathic characters this season, so if the setup is for some kind of comeuppance, that would be great. And after all, there is a season break coming up, so there need to be some cliffhangers.

And I would personally be in favor of them just losing in their wholly self-inflicted battle with Howard. But, more likely, the worse things are for Jimmy in Ep 7, the worse things will be for Howard ultimately

At this point I hope Jimmy’s and Kim’s plan to screw Howard over blows up in their face and the rest of the season is with them to deal with the aftermath potentially having to face a disbarment hearing.

Howard is 100% not on to them. He thinks he is and they know what he knows. They are doing something next level.

Unlikely given what we know about the future via BB. Saul is a very successful lawyer at that point. Kim is the wild card. It could destroy her in some way.

I couldn’t laugh at that at ALL, it was just too sad. And rather emblematic of Howard’s entire life–he has this big gorgeous house where he sleeps in the guest room, a lovely wife who can’t stand to be in the same room with him and he offers her this effortful and quite painstaking coffee drink that she dumps out while spilling half of it and never even thanks him for it. Last part of that scene is him quietly and sadly mopping up the spill. His entire life is this big front of perfection and grace but behind it’s all rot and empty dustiness. Poor fucker with his douche shirts and fancy car–he has nothing.

Yeah, based on the pictures we saw - that they have to redo because the judge’s arm is broken, it seems they may be feeding pictures to the PI that Howard hired.

Though I found Saul’s office set up to be interesting. I wonder how it goes from that to the sleezy joint it was in Breaking Bad.

I felt so sorry for Francesca–she worked so hard to make a tasteful and welcoming reception room and it’s full of scumbags shitting it up. I can see her giving up and letting the whole thing become a sleazefest because that’s all the clients deserve. Francesca would SO rather be working for Kim but we know that’s not in the cards.

People put out cigarettes on the chairs and peeing in the fountain makes her just say, “fuck it. This is why we don’t have nice things.”

She treated that cappuccino almost as badly as Todd treated the kid on the motorbike

Going into this season there were, for me, two big interesting questions: what’s going to happen to Nacho, and what’s going to happen to Kim.

I’m not that interested in what happens between Lalo, Mike and Gus. Gus and Mike are going to end the series as successful drug lord masquerading as fried chicken magnate and his henchman respectively. There’s a bit of back and forth about how independently minded Mike gets to be, but nothing major can really happen. Ditto, Lalo is almost certainly going to die, or if not then somehow otherwise be taken out of the picture. Lalo is interesting enough to watch but I’m not invested in him enough to care about his exit.

I’ve loved following Jimmy’s story even though I knew where he ended up, because of the tragedy if watching him fall, and all the chances he’s had to make better choices. But now we’re so close to the end he’s fully committed to being Saul Goodman so it feels like his personal journey is complete.

I loved the way Nacho’s story was told (because I was invested in him and did care about how he met his end). And unlike with Saul, I don’t know where Kim is headed so it’s alarming (and interesting) to find her seesawing between well funded pro bono lawyer and sleazy con artist.

I think the scheme might well blow up in their face. That would drive Kim away and give Jimmy that final nudge over the cliff. If it turns out that they were not only able to predict that Howard would hire a PI but we’re also able to suborn that PI before or after the fact that will feel just a little too implausible for me.

Hadn’t spotted this parallel at the time, but yes: two people trying hard to make something the way it should be, only to see it treated contemptuously by the people it was intended to impress/please. Selflessness is punished!

We think Jimmy hired the PI because Jimmy has pictures of himself? Couldn’t the film crew just have taken those?

Yes, but the photos are presumably intended to lure Howard into a trap, so there’s the question of how to get Howard the information.

Also, about the actress playing Kim’s mom:

I think it would be cool to cast Seahorn as Kim’s mom in a future episode just to mess with our minds a little bit.

No respect, I tell you! No respect!

Also, after watching Howard carefully making the coffee and wiping down the machine as he goes, a couple scenes later there is a view from inside the nasty vendo-coffee machine when Cliff Main buys a cup at the courthouse.

So, Kim is from Nebraska, and “Gene” winds up in a Cinnabon in Omaha. Probably not coincidence, and I’m wondering if we will see Kim again as Jimmy/Saul/Gene’s present day story wraps up.
