It can get very cold in Omaha, just sayin’
Here’s a nice recap of the Gene scenes we’ve had so far.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Breaking Bad. Can someone remind me why Saul also had to go on the run at the end? What/how was he implicated?
Lessee, Walt had pissed off the cartel by blowing up Gus, the DEA was all over his ass, Hank was killed because of him and he was the subject of a huge manhunt by pretty much everyone including a ton of pissed off meth heads who had Jesse–and Saul was his lawyer and was up to his eyeballs in money laundering and getting that umpty million in cash dropped out in the desert via Huell and that other guy. Everyone and his meaner brother wanted to get hold of Saul and squeeze him until money and/or information came out and no matter what it was not gonna be a fun time for him if he got nabbed. Things, as they say, were just too hot to handle so he shredded everything, gave Francesca a big cash severance and took it on the lam. Where he had to room with Walt for a few days waiting for the Vacuum Guy to disappear them, and some words were exchanged.
There was a weird moment in some episode of BCS (I think) where we see Francesca making a mysterious phone call from a pay phone. Does anyone remember the specifics of this? Was this referring to something in BB that I’ve just forgotten about?
(Also agree that the Kim/Jimmy breakup was totally reasonable, and a very good leadin to Saul-is-now-Saul. But we definitely need to see more Kim, whether it’s in the pre-BB, during-BB or Gene-in-Omaha timeline.)
Is this when Jimmy and Kim needed the code to be able to get into the Sandpiper class-action meeting (via phone)?
Was that hacienda with the backyard pool the same one where Gus got his revenge on the cartel?
And what was the significance of the scene in the bar?
How cool that the writers have basically wrapped up the entire series’s plot lines………with four episodes still to go. I have no idea what could be coming next, but I’m guessing we are now well into the BB years. Saul will meet Walt, probably. And I predict Gene will meet up Jesse, who will probably show up with news about Kim.
I don’t think Gene is long for this world.
Yes
Gus allowed himself to finally relax and even flirt for a bit. And then it was back to business. Too much work to be done.
Well, but there’s a direct connection between the flirting and what “back to business” really means. I took it as Gus backing away from a potential normal social relationship to return to his obsessive single-minded pursuit of a long game of revenge.
“Get ready for a surprise!”
Also the same one where Gus’s partner/lover was killed.

Also the same one where Gus’s partner/lover was killed.
Right. That’s why Gus stood and looked into the pool before he left. Max fell into the pool after he was shot.
Did that happen in BB? I don’t remember it happening in BCS. I’m in the somewhat unusual situation of having watched every episode of BCS (mostly on Netflix over the past few months) and not a single episode of BB. So no doubt I’m missing tons of stuff - I did really think “Why did they hire Jonathan Banks to be a parking attendant?” and “Giancarlo Esposito is totally wasted in a role as a restaurant manager.”
I start getting confused between what was on BB and what was on BCS, but yeah Max was killed in BB.
Yeah, happened in a flashback in BB. Eladio ordered Hector to kill him, which is why Gus hates them.
I found it interesting that now he is essentially incapacitated, Hector is no longer trusted, or rather taken seriously, by Eladio. He must be absolutely seething. Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding!!

For me that was pretty much a perfect final episode.
Gus turns away from a vaguely normal relationship to focus on revenge and drug manufacture.
Mike gets put in his place by Nacho’s dad - not an agent of justice, just a criminal like all the others.
Kim and Jimmy see the final effects of their silly little game - HHM broken and renamed, the last person to believe in Howard also broken with their final lie.
Kim finally driven away in revulsion at what they’ve done - I agree this didn’t need to drag out. Kim has always been capable of making and acting on decisions quickly.
The last nail in Jimmy’s coffin and the jump to sleazy, empty Saul Goodman.
I’m actually angry that there are more episodes. You’ve finished! The story is told, and told well. Just stop!
I have enough faith in the show that I believe I’ll change my mind when I see what they’re doing. I’m hoping it’ll be a redemptive arc for Gene because what else is there to say about the people of Albuquerque?
