Better late than never. . .

Well, Spider!! I didn’t know you were my neighbor

I live on the Sauk River over by the ballfield and St. Cloud water tower - across from the DCI building, if you know where that is.

Now that I know there are two of us in this town, whaddaya say we have the next MN Dopefest up here, eh?

I’m over by the old Holy Spirit, and until March worked at Vision Ease. A person from Brainerd e-mailed me this week-end, and CnoteChris isn’t too far away. Your’re right, maybe we could have a Doper fest. I notice your smilie is winking, and I’m not good at organizing big parties, but I’m pretty good with the unskilled labor part (grunt work).

Hi Spider Woman! And Welcome to SDMB.

Since we’ve also said hello already (you know where), I’ll put a few bits of info here about myslef:

I’m in the City by The Bay, San Francisco. I have a wife, son, house, fish tank, fruit trees (highly unusual for this city) and a strange collection of music.

You’ll find this a friendly bunch at SDMB, with only a few stinkers. But part of the fun is watching the stinkers get taken to task (or doing it yourself when called for)!

Look forward to more of your posts.

Sili

So in future limericks (if the thread keeps going) would you rather be addressed as trade or sili (certainly not con)?

My partner, Bob, is formerly from the San Bernardino area, which he tells me is about 800 miles from where you live. That’s a very long state.

What kind of music do you like?

Thanks for the welcome!

Laura

Hi Spidey!

I’m a little newer than you, so I’ll take your lead and give a brief bio, condensing bits and pieces from my other postings:

I’m 38, married, originally from Ventura, CA, currently in Chandler, AZ, moving in 5 weeks to Des Moines, IA. The reason for all these moves is that my husband is a helicopter pilot and you go where jobs are. I’m an accountant, but I hope to get better soon and become a part-time student and writer. We have no human children, but the cats currently deigning to live with us are Ajax, Rocky, Milo, and Mrs. Peel. I used to be an agnostic until we had a long thread about “What is an Atheist”, and now I’m not sure what I am anymore. For fun I write plays, direct them when I can get them produced, costume for myself and others, hang out at Ren Faires (used to work at them, can’t stand the politics anymore).

Thank you for this opportunity to talk about my favorite subject.

I’ve visited some of those atheist/agnostic threads also.

I used to be a hard-core atheist, and now I’m an agnostic, which according to my trusty Webster’s means “one who believes it is impossible to know whether there is a God or a future life.”

Recently the local hospital installed full-time helicopter service to transport people from hospital to hospital, and also to go to the scene of an accident or disaster. Some people are complaining about the noise, but every time I hear a helicopter, I think there is probably another life being saved.

You’ll be moving closer to my part of the country. Good luck with your move.

Hi from Central Pennsylvania, Spider Woman. Already metcha, but nice ta meetcha.

(I never did one of these threads either. That was probably a mistake, but I’d feel silly doing one now.)

I’ve seen your name around quite a bit. As I’ve been here longer, I’ll hopefully start to remember pertinent information to go with all these imaginative names. Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome, Spider Woman, from Dallas. I just bumped into you in another thread (sorry, I’ll try not to step on your foot next time.)

Jim

I’m still watching your thread. Good topic. It would also be cool if someone not from the continental US answered and told about some species exotic to most of us.

Thanks for responding.

Call me anything, just don’t call me late for Dinner!
I’ll respond to most names, although ‘jerk’ and ‘shithead’ are not my favorites  (Sili is just fine)

Yup, next to Alaska the biggest, but you’ll never get a Texan to agree with that. BTW, I thought San Bernadino was closer than that, like ~450 miles. But hey, I haven’t made the trip in a while.

Some of my favorites are Super Tramp, Dire Straights, Boney M, Queen, Eric Clampton, and a huge mix of Euro Rock. I also like jazz and funk. There’s tuns of other stuff in various languages, but heck if I remember the names.

Sili

See what one learns just by reading?

Sili’s a fan of SuperTramp, Dire Striaghts, and Clapton. His stock just keeps rising.

Let’s throw in some Atlanta Rhythm Section, Alan Parson Project, and the ever popular Allman Brothers. (I’ve said it before, but it still bothers me that the Allman Brothers are now the “elevator music” on the Weather Channel. :()

Just realized that all three groups start with “A”.

HIJACK!!!

What are your “B” groups? hehehe…

Thank you, but it is not that original. I lifted it from the Star Wars universe of villians. Xizor just happens to be irresistible to women because of his pheremones. I can dream, can’t I?

Boston, Beatles, Billy Joel (hey, it was high school),B52s, Beach Boys…

I can start the C’s with CCR.

Hey Spider, how about you? What are your best web-spinning tunes?

I love almost all music, but my favorites are all classical: Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A (I think that’s the right key; the adagio was used as background music in the movie Out of Africa), Eine Kleine Nachtmuzic (sp?), his 20th , 25th, 40th and 41st symphonies, Beetoven’s 5th and 9th Symphonies, anything Mozart, Debussy, Hindemith, Mahler, Bizet, Dvorak Tschaikowsky, Sibelieus, Grieg, Prokoviev, Copeland (not sure on all these spellings); I could go on and on.

There is a lot of classical music used as background music for movies and cartoons, and I enjoy trying to identify it.

Oddly enough, I also like most rock and alternative, although I am not familiar with names. I also like the Big Band sound, lots of jazz stuff, even some rap.

A few favorites I can think of right now are “At Seventeen,” by Janis Ian, “White Rabbit,” by Jefferson Airplane(?), Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Stevie Nicks, Meatloaf, Tori Amos, Sara McLaughlin, “In the Mood,” Glenn Miller, anything Benny Goodman.

This is getting long.
