Better late than never. . .

I noticed a couple of self-introductory threads, and I would like to do this also, even though I’ve been here for almost five weeks.

My name is Laura, and I’m 46 years old. I live in a big old house in a middle-sized city in central Minnesota, with my partner Bob and my one remaining nestling, Bethany, who will soon be a senior in high school. My other two baby birds have already left the nest.

We share our house with these pets: Nickles Freckles Pickles, our dog, Norman, Pork, Beans, Pepper, and Hitomi, our cats, and Tasha (aka Killer, named by a former owner) our turtle.

I am gleaning a few things about other posters, but if any of you would like to tell me about yourselves, I would appreciate you introducing yourselves and any information you would like to share.

I have really enjoyed talking with all of you so far.

Thanks!

Well hi Spider Woman, I’ll have you know that I love spiders. You can just call me soul. I’m just this regular guy from NYC, and planning on moving to DC, and one day meeting the right woman for me so that I too can start raising a family.

Happy Belated Welcome

Hello again SpiderWoman. Although we have already met, I thought I would say a formal hello in your thread as well. Welcome again, and enjoy!

Duh

You mean there’s actually something in central Minnesota besides tornados’?

Welcome aboard from Mpls. The center of Minnesota and all things good and nice.

::A friendly jab to my Minnesota friend.::

Salutations from Nebraska! Settle in, Spider–and have a good time. Good to have you here.

Soulsling is also a poet!

Welcome from NC.

Greetings from a Florida doper. My parents were both born and raised in western Minnesota. I’ve still got a lot of family in the area. Burnsville, Coon Rapids, Grand Rapids, Pine City, Wilmar, Montevideo, et al.

We’ve already crossed paths a time or so, most notably in the “limericks” thread. (It’s one of my favorite MPSIMS threads!) I’ve enjoyed the reparte.

Welcome to the board, you seem to fit in quite well. (Now get back to the “limericks” thread, where you belong!)

Oh – watch out for ChiefScott. You can send him anything or call him every name in the book (he’s a sailor) but DON’T, under and circumstances, send him a smiley. He hates the cute little rascals. :wally:

Welcome to the board, spider. It’s always nice to have new additions. Enjoy your stay.

Waving from the coast!!

Oh yes, did I forget to mention that?

Welcome, Spider Woman! I’ve liked all of your posts that I’ve seen.

Hi there!
And welcome aboard to the greatest place to be on.

I dunno, SS…we got pictures of him wearing one…

And welcome to the board, Spider Woman! Hope you enjoy it here…

You are right. I sure do feel like a dunce for never introducing myself either. I just jump in from time with kamikazi fits of talkativeness and then disappear again.

I remember you! You asked about William, my millipede.
I found out that my boyfriend’s co-workers know me there only as the Millipede Girl. Wonderful.

I hope I can be more than that. I am envious of your turtle because i want to get one soon. A tortoise, actually.

Yes, well- I am 23 and i live in ** Boston **. I have two roommates in a great big loft space in a former warehouse.
I like dancing and running and throwing things. I like to write, too.

My goal is to one day become interesting.

I am so glad you mentioned your pets because i think pets are very important and i have never been without one at any point of my life.

If I could have any pet in the world (assuming they could be tamed), it would an armadillo or an elephant. Or both.
I might go ahead and start a thread about this, now that I think about it.

sousling: Are any of your poems posted at the SDMB?

CnoteChris: If you ever make it to Saint Cloud, in the heart of central Minnesota, visit the Clemens and Munsinger Gardens. That’s one thing we’re famous for besides tornados.

struuter: What part of Nebraska? My mother was born in Ainsworth and lived for a while in Valentine. She still has relatives in Chadron, and maybe other places (she has LOTS of relatives).

xizor: Do you mind my asking how you chose your name? It is quite interesting.

SS: See you at the limericks thread as soon as I finish here.

Thanks to Ultress, Girlbysea, Cajun Man, and Anniz ( and hi again Duh Man)!

Falcon: Are the Chief Scott smilie pictures posted?

Turpentine: I think you are already very interesting. (I told my brother William about your millipede.)

Thanks again everyone!

I never introduced myself to the board, either. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to get to know you a little better, and to let everyone know something about me, also.

I’m 24, female, in case there remains any confusion over my screen alias, with long blonde/brown/auburn hair and really large breasts. Just kidding, I wouldn’t actually call my hair “auburn.”
I don’t have any pets, unless you count my fiance. I do have a houseplant named Jasmine (okay, so it’s not a very original name for a jasmine plant), which is still alive after six months, to my amazement.
I live in a geekhaus in San Diego, with 4 roommates including one fiance. Of the regular roommates two are male, one is female, all are platonic. The fiance is not.
If you want to see me ramble on even more than usual, inquire about my niece.
I work full time and go to college in the evenings. This semester I am taking Cultural Anthropology and Art History. I am very excited about going back to school in general, and these classes in particular. My goal is to be the first person in my immediate family to earn a college degree.
I enjoy reading and (sometimes) writing, Renaissance Faires, travel, dancing, swimming, teaching myself to cook, walking, the outdoors, and, of course, posting to SDMB.
I don’t think I’ve actually made much of an impression on the board up until this point, but my post count is rising, and I’m still hopeful!
Also, if you read very many of my posts, you’ll notice that I love italics, (and parentheses).

Welcome to all the newcomers. SpiderWoman, I’ve especially enjoyed some of your posts in the pit. (I think we think a lot alike.)

If anyone’s interested and has IRC, we have a channel (#straightdope) and would love to have you drop in and chat for a while. (If you come in and find only “bots” hang out for a while and someone else will usually stop by.)

Thanks for stopping by!

Edwardina: so how old is your niece?

voguevixen: I seem to remember you also in a couple of pit threads (what am I doing in the pit anyway, I’m such a wuss?). I don’t know if I have IRC or not, or how I would get to that channel if I did. I will ask my daughter, who may not tell me. Since I have discovered this message board, she and I compete for computer time.

Ahhh. St Cloud. My refuge from the college dulldrums at the University of Minnesota. One of my good friends attended SCSU. You definitely know how to throw a party up there. I used to commute up there on weekends for the unabashed partying that took place there.

I was also suppose to be there the weekend of the riots. It hasn’t been the same since. Before you outlawed kegs, I took part in the destruction of the banana house. Youth is fun.

Now that I’m older, and more sober, Clemens and Munsinger Gardens sounds interesting. Is it new? Or did we miss it in an alcohol, drug, God knows what else, induced haze?

In all seriousness, what do you do up there? How often do you make it into the city? If you rarely make it into the city and need advice for dining and nights out, let me know and I can recommend some nice places and events that are beyond the college drink 'till ya puke mind set.

The Munsinger Gardens are right across the river from Saint Cloud State, close to the Tenth Street bridge. The Clemens Gardens are a block east, and are relatively new. I believe Munsinger has been here for many years. I’d say definitely worth your while to visit. They have been featured on Twin Cities new shows a couple of times, I believe.
