Nothing wrong with wandering around the neighborhood. I’ve read that Macron, the young French president, walks around Paris, at night, with no known aim other than to walk.
But I am opposed to people not saying what they think — especially what they think about politicians.
I’m actually going to edit this. You ignore the second half of my post where I am making the point that blowing up the party is a bad, bad idea as it only serves to elect Trump. One might as well go out and campaign for DJT if that is really a good idea.
If Harris were to become a Democratic nominee, I would cast a write-in vote for Taylor Swift in protest. I live in a safe blue state and I find Harris’ record troubling and I cannot support her for president.
When exactly? Until South Carolina his campaign was a bust. After that what were they going to do? Tell all his primary voters, “We’re sorry. We think he’s too old so we’re going with that young energetic mayor from Indiana”?
I live in Illinois, speaking of rather strongly blue. The idea of someone writing in Taylor Swift for president when the Republican candidate is Donald Trump, illustrates to me the degree to which said voter opposes Donald Trump.
In November there will be an election. One can vote to put Trump back in the Oval Office, and one can vote to keep him out. There is no “else”.
So what exactly made “that day” of the debate so special? He had many good days before and after, notably the SOTU address. Was it Trump’s presence? There was no audience. Was Biden intimidated by Trump?
And yet I guarantee that at least a third of eligible American voters will vote for neither of these two men. Their non-vote / third party vote will be interpreted by you as a vote for Trump (should he win), but it won’t be interpreted that way by the person refraining from voting / voting third party.
And they’re never going to find out how they feel about her if she isn’t given an opportunity to prove herself. Put it this way: if DJT wins in November, she loses the opportunity to become America’s first female president with Biden’s blessing. She’ll just be done.
This is a complicated issue, but if this is your interpretation of his words, I humbly suggest that you step back and reflect on whether your investment in your belief that Biden is unfit is getting in the way of your ability to interpret anything happening in an accurate manner.
Every question in that interview was explicitly or implicitly about Biden’s own opinions on his chances and his fitness. The question “ And if you stay in and Trump is elected and everything you’re warning about comes to pass, how will you feel in January?” … was not asking Biden to lament about how bad Trump would be, but was asking “how would you feel if it was YOUR FAULT because you ran for office!?!?” Biden’s answer was appropriate and on point.
He did not say that the only thing that would matter is that he tried hard- that interpretation is borderline making-things-up.
My state hasn’t voted for a Republican since Reagan and there is zero chance of that changing this year. My vote will do nothing to either put Trump in office or prevent it from happening. I’m more concerned about the gubernatorial race and the anti-tax initiatives on the ballot this year.
And I fully intend on voting for Biden anyway, since I fully expect him to be the “Prefers Democratic Party” candidate on my ballot in October.
He probably actually was exhausted as he said. But it clearly isn’t something that he manage if he couldn’t manage it on the most important day of his campaign so far.
There is voting a protest vote in a state that is nowhere near a swing state. That has the added bonus of creating a frenzy on SD with members calling out, “HOW DARE YOU!”.
Sure thing. Problem is, eight years ago, American voters already demonstrated that “Trump is so toxic that you must vote for the (D) or else” is a strategy that by no means may necessarily work.
Reading the SOTU well, off a teleprompter, is not cognitively difficult. One difference was Trump’s presence. Another was — questions were not given in advance.
A Philadelphia radio personality properly resigned after being criticized for using interview questions obtained in advance from the Biden campaign. This, like the SOTU, in no way tested whether Biden is still qualified to perform one of the world’s most difficult jobs.
If the SOTU tested anything, it was acting ability. We need a President skilled at real life crisis management, not one acting like he has such skills.
I get that Trump is worse. But a free press is long term worthless if it rolls over, when the nation’s leader can be fairly criticized, because it thinks the alternative politicians are worse. That’s similar to what they-are-the-enemy-of-the-people Donald Trump wants.
And, worse, that Trump spent four years as president and democracy did not end. It’s clear to me that his actions (and often lack thereof) made the USA much worse, but I don’t think it’s equally clear to all voters. “He won’t be that bad because he wasn’t before” is something they can convince themselves of.
