Okay- Biden is not considering dropping out. That was fake news.
It truly pains me to say this, but lately any time I see a derogatory headline about Biden in the NYT I take it with a huge helping of salty skepticism. The paper has it in for him, clearly.
To be fair the report was not that he was considering dropping out. It was his recognition that he needs to convince everyone that he is up for job or else his campaign is doomed. His mindset may be exclusively focused on how to do that, not on the possibility that he cannot.
Harris was a disaster in 2020. Her speaking word salad. Her proposals baffling. Her big attack line on Biden was about a policy nobody has cared about in decades. She didn’t even make it to Iowa. She will be a complete and total disaster for the Democrats.
You don’t think she’s learned ANYthing in 4 years?
None of those things matter anymore. See:Trump
She’s been sitting in the Naval Observatory occasionally casting tie breaking votes and not much else. So no, I don’t.
She was a horrible primary candidate with no clear strategy for how to run a full length primary campaign against Biden.
I think OTOH she could be an excellent general election candidate in a short season against the existential threat that many of us feel is Trump. It’s a different sort of race and she will have a different sort of advisory team.
I also think she’d be a fine president.
I posted this in another thread recently:
I seriously doubt Biden will dropout as things are now. Almost zero chance. But this does signal trouble that his chances are in serious doubt.
No, death is listed as an exception for replacing a candidate. It’s the usual legal gobbledygook, but basically after the primary but before 5pm on the 4th July the party committee can replace candidates if they are dead, insane, or mentally incompetent.
Here is the text:
I really don’t understand this law though. Because Biden isn’t the nominee yet. There is certainly the possibility that the Democratic Convention selects somebody else as the nominee. So I really don’t quite get whether this law even applies to the office of the President, which has very different rules than something like a Senator or US Rep where the nominee is known as soon as the primary is over.
Not necessarily fake news.
How about a reporter has an insider talking? And who heard things.
You gotta know these things are being discussed inside the Whitehouse, just as we are talking about it.
Too soon to label it fake news.
That means a particular thing.
It may be news, in error.
It may be news that’s thought about and considered.
It may be a overheard conversation.
Too soon.
So what happens if someone dies in, say, August?
My guess is their running-mate (the VP pick) automatically becomes the candidate. Not sure if there are rules for who they can pick as their VP.
Well, in MO many years ago that happened. The dead person remained on the ballot, and won. He was replaced by his wife.
It would look really weird to make the older and more federally-experienced of the two the back-up to the younger and less-experienced of the two. If he’s not fit to be president, he’s certainly not fit to be waiting in the wings to be president.
What is this, 2008?
I have no idea what’s going to happen. I have no idea what I want to happen. But if Harris became the nominee and actually beat Trump…he’d have to put on a suicide watch. His whole world would come crumbling down.
I think it is not nice to be wanting to watch him do that?
Oh, no. His ego is too big.
It will be about 100 other peoples fault.
He will crow for years about how he was robbed.
