Biden considering dropping out (Update: Biden drops out)

He has problems with speech…not new for him…and racts a bit slowly. Walks like an old man. That is it. He does not connect three unconnected things in one sentence like Trump.

FWIW I am pretty confident he could. He is an experienced executive who understands delegation and utilizing a team. He’s got the wisdom to do the job by leading a team that does all the heavy lifting.

But winning an election is a very different task.

Whatever. I, for one, don’t need the President to be a dancing bear. If he and his delegates are making the right decisions under the right ethic, that’s more than good enough.

I know, I know … “unengaged voters!

One question, of course, is how much can truly be delegated? Obviously most stuff can and should, that’s just being a good leader. But what decisions must be made by whoever is actually in the office and simply cannot be delegated?

Again, this is where I think both parties have hurt the system by Congress refusing to do so much and putting so much power into the Executive.

I would expect that virtually all of it can be (and commonly is) delegated. I think I’m starting from a prior opposite of yours – that the President embodies an ethic which is meant to be executed by an entire branch of government (as opposed to one person).

It seems to be a measure of how deeply concerned she is about Biden’s electability. And her views are worth our attention—Pelosi’s political successes are numerous and impressive. Her savvy is legendary.

Somewhere I saw remarks about how Pelosi could serve as a role-model for Biden. She stepped down from a position of power (the Speakership) voluntarily. Yet she did not become irrelevant. She is the Speaker Emeritus, and her words are listened to and heeded.

Imagine a Biden passing the torch of candidacy with dignity, as an elder whose opinions will be sought and whose advice would be taken. He would, with one stroke, restore his legacy. (Which will surely be lost if he loses to Trump.)

If only his closest advisors (his wife and his sister Valerie) could see it this way.

This ^^^.

I, too, completely concur with this. This is exactly the position that Biden should be in – a semi-retired advisory elder statesman, instead of being in denial about his age and diminished capabilities.

That sounds like a polite way of saying somebody else is behind the wheel. This didn’t happen overnight. It has to have been going on for some time.

Daily Mail 10 July 2024

  • NBC’s chief political analyst Chuck Todd has revealed that a ‘senior’ member of Joe Biden’s cabinet told him two years ago that they had serious concerns about the president running again.

I’m definitely starting to think the Democrats are hoping they can just deal with Biden like they did Feinstein: Kick the can down the road and hope that it resolves itself favorably without having to do anything or take a position. And if it doesn’t, well, they’ll be fine.

I think the question has now become: Will he do the right thing and drop out, or will his stubbornness wreck his legacy, lose the presidency and take down Congressional Democrats?

His presidency has been great, but his candidacy is toast. Viva Kamala.

It isn’t.

I’ve been in leadership positions and see a variety of styles. It’s the style of many of the best leaders. I won’t claim that micromanagers can never be good executives, but generally the best delegate much and trust the people they have delegated to.

I disagree. I don’t think the Democrats are dithering here. I think it is pretty clear that party leadership and most mainstream members thinks Biden should drop out and they are trying to get him to do so with the least damage Biden and the party. You can see it how increasingly direct Democrat are getting in their messaging. Ideally you convince him behind the scenes, but if he won’t listen you need to keep putting on increasing pressure until he withdraws. I think the strategy is correct for what it is worth. New Ipsis poll today had 85% and voters think Biden is too old and 62% of Democrats think he should step aside. How can that be your best candidate?

Pass it to who? ^^^.
Who have you got that is qualified to do the job and polls higher than Trump?

I know this is anecdotal, but of course this is a big topic among my friends and colleagues, most of whom are either on the left OR never-Trumpers.

Most of them will vote for Biden as a vote against Trump. None, not one, is excited about it.

And that means some number won’t be motivated to go to the polls.

Is it possible Biden can fix this? Maybe. But the right candidate right now would make me feel a lot better.

This demonstrates a woeful lack of understanding into why Feinstein stayed in her position. It wasn’t at all because Dems were “just hoping.” I won’t derail this thread with further discussion on it, but you should do some digging if you’re genuinely interested in why that situation was locked in. It’s really ugly – and not by the Dems or Feinstein.

Well the Biden campaign hopes to find out an answer to this.

We might as well have some fun …

Will Biden drop out of the race and if so when?

  • He will persevere.
  • Drops before the GOP convention
  • Drops just after the GOP convention
  • Drops during the GOP campaign convention
  • Drops just before the Democratic convention
  • Other. I dunno, hit by a lightning bolt and Harris becomes president that way … explain.
