Biden considering dropping out (Update: Biden drops out)

You’d vote for Harris to be VP, but not P?

Biden has COVID.

Just fyi, y’all.

That’ll complicate things for sure

Well, yes. I didn’t think she should’ve been his running mate in the first place because she’s too right-wing and too pro-cop. If Biden was insistent on picking a woman of color he should have gone with Tammy Duckworth. More to the point, if Biden isn’t on the top of the ticket it’ll be because the right wing of the party sold him out to appease their corporate donors, and that’s a party that I would not have confidence in to govern.

So for the last week or so he’s been vigorously campaigning and giving speeches and press conferences and interviews while sick with a dangerous disease?

Sounds like proof positive to me that he’s up to the task at hand.

This can’t possibly get worse.

Shut up, beck before you jinx it.

Poor ol’ guy…him trying to walk up those plane steps today was just sad.

IMO, with the news I’m hearing, it’s a done deal. He’s leaving.

Yeah ok.

You know, I’ve been wondering, as an aside, how Air Force One accommodates passengers who can’t use steps. I don’t see anything like an elevator, and it’s not the kind of jet that uses jetways for passengers to get in. Sure, there is a smaller staircase near the tail, but still requires walking. What will the USAF do when or if Biden someday cannot walk up?

It used to have one:

I’m sure they could come up with a portable jetway with a motorized seat/wheelchair platform, though.

OK, I think you just lost the right to complain about other Democrats being “divisive”.

So all that talk about how a 2nd Trump term would be so disastrous for the nation that…

Sounds like a mild case of COVID. Shouldn’t be a big deal.

This is a strange response.

Covid is serious, of course, but it’s not necessarily problematic, even in octagenarians, if they are in general good health and fully vaccinated, as I assume Biden is.

For this news, I think wait and see, as it could break in three directions: Biden has mild covid, Biden is seriously ill, or somewhere in the middle but it provides the necessary pretext for dropping out.

Right now, I don’t think covid is nearly the problem that cognitive decline has the potential to be,* because (barring long covid) in a week it will either be over or more obviously serious.

*Edited because we don’t know one way or the other whether Biden is actually experiencing it.

I can only imagine what will happen if Harris is top of the ticket - you will see all the same chauvinism and misogny that happened with Clinton.
Sadly, Americans (from what I have seen) are too stupid and prejudiced to collectively vote for a woman as president - they’re simply not ready for that.

If Biden isn’t on top of the ticket, Trump wins no matter what. So my vote will be worth even less than the nothing it’s worth now seeing as I live in a safe blue state.

In that situation, I will cast a write-in vote for Biden.

People keep saying we’re not ready for a woman in the White House.

I disagree. We are. We could do it. But like you said the misogyny will raise its ugly head.

What ever happens I’ll vote Dem.
If it’s Biden, good. If it’s Harris, good.
I don’t think there’s any other real choices.
My vote may be for naught, but I’ll know in my heart I did right.

This election season could not get any weirder.

Hey, Biden was mask-less.
He should not have done that. Even if they figure everyone he’s flying with is already exposed, there’s the optics.

Indeed; the last time a woman was a presidential candidate, she was so widely assumed/predicted to win that her defeat came as a huge shock.

So following your logic, someone who believes that Biden will lose to Trump no matter what would be equally justified in any criticism of Biden or division of the democrats while Biden is the nominee, since it’s a guaranteed loss anyway.

Sounds like Biden really impressed House Democrats during a Zoom call on Saturday, especially when he got into it with Colorado Congressman Jason Crow regarding Biden’s fitness to serve.

So if Biden gets sick or dies you’re not going to vote for his replacement?
