I like the short list (although I know little about Cooper).
For VP, You need someone who is like Joe from Scranton. The passionate and empathetic person. Someone who can connect to people’s “reptilian brain” (like Trump can), nothing cerebral (like a Kerry or Gore).
Is anyone like that? While Harris should be Pres nominee, she comes off a bit fake to me/cerebral, but it’s been awhile since I’ve actually watched her.
I’ll vote for any Democrat on the ticket, but I’m also pretty much resigned to a Trump victory at this point as the Dems show their masterful ability to be their own worst enemy.
If Biden is the option and he loses, I can live with that. If it is someone else and they lose, we’ll all spend the rest of our days wondering if Biden would have won.
Right, which is itself unfortunate.
I think the word “right” isn’t quite… right. It makes it sound as though something might unfairly be taken away from him, which in this case isn’t the case.
I absolutely think it’s simple and clear, but it’s also unprecedented in modern politics and a difficult thing to process. Sometimes life is like that. But Biden and his handlers really created this difficulty in the first place by being in denial about and hiding his problems. Further, we’re in this unprecedented situation because a guy that fucking old wanted to run again–which shouldn’t have happened (not that I was complaining about it either at the time… I just wanted to beat Trump. If Biden won and resigned after the first day of his new term, that would have been fine with me.).
I would like Pete Buttigieg as the presidential nominee, Kamala Harris can remain the VP nominee.
We’re not. Biden and his team created this problem. There was no talk of getting rid of him until the debate.
I think this logic indicates at least a moderate amount of denial about Biden’s condition. Not to be repetitive, but the guy cannot be president in his current condition. It’s not just about appearances and perceptions.
Personally, I would have been fine with Biden winning and and shortly thereafter resigning. But he made that impossible by challenging Trump to a debate when he was simply unable to debate. Further, we don’t know at what rate he is degenerating. He may well be unable to campaign at all in a month or so. We just don’t know.
LOL, joke, right?
No, not at all.
The flip side is true too. If Biden stays and loses we’ll all spend the rest of our days wondering if he should have stepped down.
Women, Black people, and especially Black women would justifiably consider it an insult. Plus Harris is much better candidate than Pete. It’s a terrible idea.
Also, how dickish do you think Trump voters are?
No, not in general; I’m asking, in particular: say Biden steps down, and Harris narrowly loses; will Trump voters, when polled, twist the knife by claiming they would’ve voted for Biden? And say Biden stays in, and loses; will Trump voters, when polled, claim they would’ve voted for Harris?
The GOP would do that to whoever’s the ticket. Unless some horrible tragedy takes both of them out Harris is the only plausible candidate to replace Biden at the top of the ticket.
But if Biden cuts aid to Israel off- which he has no real authority to do (that’s Congress) he loses the Jewish vote. And the demonstrations have died down- some of the smarter students are realizing the the USA is doing what they can- it is Hamas that is keeping the war going.
Yes, because we voted him in. A 'smoke filled room" deal will not sit well with the voters. Now, if Biden withdraws due to health reasons, and puts Harris in- that could work.
Right.
They had their chance during the primaries. And there is no reason now- yeah, Joe did badly at one debate, but he has shown he can still do this with rallies and interviews.
Yep.
He is not saying Biden should withdraw, nor is Pelosi.
No, he is not. Did you see his interview? Non-scripted, no cards, and Joe did fine.
And who did defeat trump, and is still polling better than anyone else.
That would cause trump to win in a landslide. Not only is Mayor Pete not experienced enough, but he is openly gay- which wont play in Peoria.
Good one. As if the NYT and the primary challengers and the milquetoast centrists haven’t been beating the “Biden is too old and should drop out” drum for over a year now. As if that wasn’t the thesis of Jon Stewart’s first episode when he returned to TV. As if we haven’t been hearing since last year that the Democrats were going to convince Biden to drop out at the convention.
I don’t think they even expected the public to be so fickle as to let one bad night convince them that Donald Trump has been right all along.
I love Pete and think he’ll make a fine President someday. I think he needs some more experience to round him out first. He’s definitely being groomed for a run.
The media created this problem. Biden had a bad night because he was exhausted. That would have been forgotten by November, but the media can’t have that. They need clicks.
He is President in his current condition and I’m not aware of any problems that have resulted from “this condition.”
Mind you if Biden does stay in the race and Trump wins we will forever de hearing about how Harris would have one if only…
We have seen Biden since speaking in other situations including an interview which was supposed to repair some of the damage done at the debate. In all cases he has not done well and only reinforced that the debate performance was not a one-time glitch but seemingly how he is now and there is no reason to expect it will get better in the future.
Yep, and the NYT and Clooney have a feud with Biden.
This is totally not true.
Dunno about the NYT but Clooney raised a fortune for Biden. Seems like Clooney was definitely in Biden’s corner.
It totally is true.
