Obama or Clinton would have absolutely destroyed Trump tonight. I still think Biden is the far better candidate, but I don’t think he won over anyone who was undecided. And he may have lost some.

Biden’s closing statement about tax distribution, Medicare, inflation. Slightly stuttered, not that passionate, finally using his hands, looked tired.
Trump’s statement overconfident, lots of hypothetical stuff and superlatives, a bit tangential and rambling, no specific policy. Disrespectful.
Overall: painful. Both closing statements weak. Will benefit Trump slightly since he seemed more coherent even though it really was not, Trump will be held to a lower standard, Biden did fluster.

There was nothing unpredictable in the questions or Trump’s responses. Why didn’t Biden have simple rehearsed responses of his own? Everything Trump said came right from his rally speeches.

There is talk that Biden has a summer cold. The news people are saying that team democrat is not in a good place. There is a bit of panic.

I stuttered every word Joe stuttered. I feel his pain.
Biden had a bad debate; I don’t think there is any way to spin that. He just looked and sounded weak through the debate with that raspy voice. His closing statement was fumbling and weak. Trump was spewing his usual bullshit but he energetic and confident and the contrast in that regard with Biden was enormous.
There are definitely going to be calls for Biden to stand down. I am still baffled why his team agreed to a debate before the convention. The danger for him was always going to be a weak debate performance leading to calls for someone else to replace him and I think that’s what will happen.
Thinking proactively, there must be a moderation technique or format that can nullify the gish gallop, because it is on fully weaponised display here and is only strengthened by the debate format here. Rhetoric and logic can’t exist in this new era, the best result Biden could get would be to just kick over the podium , flip trump off, and walk out.
I haven’t heard it but there’s suppose to be a Trump ad that’s entirely Biden verbally wandering off in grandpa mode.

On MSNBC the talking heads are saying that the Biden campaign is supremely worried and talking about next steps.
