The gish gallop is a rhetorical technique. The counter is to realize you have no obligation to refute nor address every point your opponent raises. Talk to the larger audience with your message that resonates with them.
I’m ok with Biden wrapping up with a list of infrastructure gains. The abortion arguement can’t be settled in 90 seconds.
He should have pointed out that the House Republicans blocked new funding for border judges and clearing houses.
I think Biden should have denounced the SCOTUS ruling on allowing gratuity payments to politicians. That would shock a lot of people. Thanks John Roberts.
Of him stepping down from the ticket or of their being calls from Democrats for him to do exactly that? Because I 100% expect prominent party members to call for him to step aside almost immediately.
I’d say pray Biden wins the election and then have him step down in two-years and one day after he starts his second term and then let Harris take over.
It would be supremely short-sighted of “prominent party members” to make such a call based on one subpar debate performance where he was clearly struggling with a cold.
There is going to be enormous pressure on Biden to step down over the next few weeks. Not sure it will work but even if it doesn’t it’s hard to see how it doesn’t weaken him further.
I’ve always liked Biden since the Obama days, but he’s no longer the man for the job. It doesn’t matter what he said, even if one could understand him which many of us could not some of the time – it matters even more that he looked like he might die before the night is out, never mind before another four years.
Biden lost this debate the moment he left the make-up table, just like Nixon. He looked like a corpse, and sounded like a wraith. All of his answers were smarter, more coherent, and saner than Trump’s, but that won’t matter in the least. He might as well have showed up in a shroud.
I’m so ticked off right now. Ticked off and terrified. Biden confirmed everybody’s worst fears. Og help us.
That might be a hard conversation that needs to be had. trump needs to be stopped, and if Joe can’t do it I’m perfectly okay with them bringing in someone who can.
I think Biden has been a fine president, and I think he would continue to be a fine president if re-elected. But he has to get re-elected, and the odds of that are looking shakier by the minute.
Exactly my thought. And I suspect @Smapti will be seriously disappointed with what other Dems will do and say in coming days. The NYT is going to have a field day with what happened tonight and they are supposedly a liberal paper.
