Seriously bad idea.
I think it would be better to have a candidate that can debate with a cold.
However, this reinforces my thought that this is was a perfect storm of bad circumstances and not an indication that he can’t do this election.
It was absolutely a setback for his campaign though.
Well, that was painful. Biden suffers from a lifelong speech impediment, and Trump is a master of the Gish Gallop. There was simply no way for Biden to address the actual questions, AND call Trump out on all of Trump’s lies. I really wish Biden had brought out Dark Brandon. 
They do. Cough and hoarse voice are not what viewers are freaked out about.
Disappointing that Biden is still pushing the Carlottesville fine people on both sides story, despite a week of debate prep. Also, he isn’t going to fool anyone with his story that Trump said people should inject bleach into their arms. At least he didn’t repeat that inflation was over 9 percent when Trump left office.
I’m truly worried for the man.
I’m 2-0 on predictions for this debate. I predicted Trump would show and I was right. I predicted he wouldn’t try to take control of Biden’s mic and I was right. I like my record for predicting these things thus far.
If the NYT is liberal, then so is Fox News.
ISTM, if Biden did back out (which I think there is almost no chance of) they’d have to go with Harris.
That was a 45 minute Trump rally, attended by Biden, sitting in the back row. All this accomplished was giving a free national stage for Trump to say all his lies.
I can’t even begin to describe the rage I’m feeling about how my mom is seriously interested in the debate to help her decide how to vote. I’m here waiting on her hand and foot, with a smile, as she recovers from back surgery and she’s trying to tell me that she’d vote for a man who is against everything I stand for. “Because your father fought in Vietnam for me to be able to vote for whoever I want.” I hate this timeline.
If Biden backs out, Trump wins. That’s the long and short of it.
Man, that wasn’t just hoarseness. He looked and acted feeble. A cold should not fuck up someone’s ability to look presidential and strong. He looked weak.
Someone on CNN said if Democrats really think Trump is such an absolute threat to democracy and America, they really need to think if this version of Joe Biden is the best person to stop this threat.
Notice the word “supposedly” in my post. They were once upon a time left of center but of late have been far from it. I have posted a number of complaints about how they push the Biden is ancient angle on multiple of occasions. Their bias is clear.
I think the Dems wanted a bad performance. Hopefully Biden will stand down if the opinions go to negative. Not sure who is waiting in the wings. Trump is not a skilled debater it should be easy to tear him apart.

This version of Joe Biden is the ONLY person who can stop this threat. There isn’t a Democrat alive who could jump into the race four months before the election and win. It’ll be a repeat of 1968.
Nobody.
If they do that they’ll lose even worse than they might have with Biden.
Given Trump’s stream of crap, Biden needed to take a larger view rather than respond to most of the individual misinformation.

At the moment I would say if Biden continues to perform this poorly in public settings or at future debates, Trump wins.
Things could change but this performance did not do anything to make him look like a winner. And that’s a pity because he has been a great President.
It was a disaster, sortof like the masks falling off.
He won’t get my vote.
Recognizing that this is all just panic posting – yes, it would have to be Harris. The Democrats wouldn’t be able to afford the distraction of a contested convention. And probably most importantly, since she’s already part of the ticket she would be able to access the tens of millions of dollars in the main Biden/Harris campaign accounts.
Incumbents often do badly in debates.
Debate winners don’t always win elections.
