I’m not crazy about Harris for several reasons but Biden had my vote before, and he for sure still has it now. She’s smart and tough and I could see her someday as President. It’s a solid choice and does no harm, I’d say.
And, to be honest, this is likely to be all that matters in the run-up to the election. This one is between Biden and Trump. Whether it should be or not, the VP ticket on both sides is likely to be largely irrelevant.
I don’t think so. In her case, unlike Obama’s, she was raised solely in the US, and experienced some events that define the African American experience such as busing. In addition, she attended Howard, a historically black university and was a member of AKA, a historically black sorority. The black women I have heard from (obviously a limited sample) feel that this gives her African American cred, for lack of a better phrase.
huh…I didn’t know that. I always thought of her as a progressive, not an establishment liberal. That puts this in a new light for me. I have to admit in the last few years I’ve kind of fallen out of touch with most US politics, as the entire thing just seems like such a morass. IMHO, this is an excellent choice for VP. A strong willed, progressive yet still enough to appeal to the “centre”. A women who is coloured or of colour (or whatever the correct term is in now-a-days) strong on crime enough to piss the extreme left off a bit and stem some criticism from the right. I don’t follow US politics that closely but I think Biden has chosen exceptionally well.
Exactly. People like to folks who look like them or from their region get top political spots. Especially if it’s from a group or region that historically hasn’t had those opportunities. We talk all the time about VP picks helping bolster votes in their home state - is that because we think people in that state are bigoted towards folks in other states? Of course not. It’s because people like seeing someone like them finally get ahead.
No, it’s a classic pro wrestling video that’s been around forever, made somewhat more poignant because James “Sugar Bear” Harris, who wrestled as “Kamala” among other gimmicks, died recently. I was a fan, and actually met him in person. He had a T-Shirt made that said something like “Kamala for President 2020”. Given the way he felt about Vince McMahon and the WWE, I’m pretty sure he’d be on the Biden/Harris team.
It’s childish, silly and pretty much a predictor of the kind of nuanced political thinking that we’ve come to expect of the right wing.

For instance, I would have found it amusing if you had used this Kamala. But I would understand why some others wouldn’t.

In addition to what everyone else has said: Kamala Harris was one of the Democratic Presidential candidates, way back when there were many of them. If she were ineligible to be POTUS, surely someone would have pointed it out back then, rather than letting her participate in those Democratic Primary debates.
Given the grotesque racial stereotyping (even if it was promoting the wrestler himself) I think it was in very poor taste in this forum and in this thread. The post has been hidden by community flags, but I have edited out the video in question.
