TV in the bathtub. You could have been electrocuted!
I didn’t think much of the episode except at the end when the guys were confessing what they did to each other.
It seems to be moving too far from reality to be funny.
OK I can see how a brother wouldn’t want anyone sleeping with his sister, but would Howard really jeopordize his relationship by hitting on Raj’s sister. Especially when we just had an episode where he was dumped for cybersex (with another guy as a game character, I believe)
Either the writers are differing from episode to episode, or they aren’t getting together. It doesn’t bode well saying Howard is a total sleeze without any feeling.
Raj’s sisters comes off as a racist with a throw-a-way joke about not bringing home a white boy. If any one of the guys said, they couldn’t bring home an Indian woman it would be offensive and racist, so the reverse isn’t? Perhaps it’s overly critical of me, but I found it not funny at all.
Leornard is going to totally pathetic and not in a funny way. He was a loser before but at least he has some self respect.
Once again we have stupidity. OK Raj isn’t familiar with America but really gifts on Thanksgiving, it may have worked once but every year. Again the writers don’t seem to understand these are PHDs not morons. They’re not stupid, and if you present them in unfamiliar situations it’s funny. When you present highly educated people as stupid or morons it’s NOT funny. It’s just weak writing for the sake of a throw-a-way joke.
Raj may have fell for the Thanksgiving gifts once, but no more. He’s not STUPID. He’s a highly educated PHd.
What started out as nerds trying to fit into the real world is going into the characters becoming parodies of themselves.
For some reason, I kept expecting Penny to pop out of apartment when Leonard and Priya were making out in the hall. I forgot about the broken leg.
I was expecting him to be eaten by a grue.
You clearly haven’t met many Ph.D.'s.
Howard is basically a lech and Raj is very aware that Priya is hot. Why wouldn’t he tell them (remember, that line was to both Howard and Leonard) to stay away from his sister? And how is that unrealistic? I didn’t want any of my skeezier friends dating my sister either.
It’s just you. Not only is this kind of humor is considered “OK” now (see also the Outsourced movie, Guess Who with Bernie Mac and probably a bunch of others) but Raj’s parents have mentioned it before. Not to mention the fact that this kind of line has been a staple of comedy for decades (Jewish mothers anyone?).
More simply… dude, you’re overthinking it.
I think this is more a reflection on her parents than her. And it wouldn’t be all that uncommon for a traditional family from India to think that way, even today.
Not stupid, but insular. Very very insular. If they spend all their time in the lab and the comic shop, who knows what they might or might not notice about the larger world around them.
What I found to be sloppy writing was that Sheldon managed to keep his bug experiment secret for years but is physically incapable of keeping Leonard’s secret for a few hours.
Still, the betrayal revelations scene was funny enough for me to forgive that.
You wouldn’t do well watching Outsourced. Almost every joke revolves around the culture clash of an American guy working in India. Most of the jokes are of the “reverse racist” type.
What, you think he’d put someone else’s secret on the same level as his own?
I think we have established in previous episodes that these guys will hit on any available woman. They were all hitting on Sheldon’s sister in one episode and remember the episodes where Leonard was sleeping with Howard’s girlfriend? How about the episode with Summer Glau?
I’m still waiting for Leonard’s Sister to show up. Of course, with Amy Farah Fowler, they will have to come up with a different personality for her.
Based on Raj’s mother reaction to Penny, I thought her comment was a pretty accurate prediction of what would happen. She would probably be in even bigger trouble if she brought home a boyfriend of a lower cast.
I think you may underestimate how mysterious American culture may be to people who didn’t grow up here. I remember having to explain in 94 to some friends that had lived here for several years that tradition didn’t require the Buffalo Bills to play in the Superbowl every year. I also had to explain that Halloween was not a Satanic Ritual.
Leonard is totally pathetic? I don’t think so! Having a trans-oceanic affair with an Indian hottie is worth massive cool points. Even more if it’s your friend’s sister.
Also, that wasn’t a 'secret", it was a blind experiment (thus Leonard couldn’t know it was happening), but Sheldon didn’t say anything about it because, in his mind, there wasn’t anything to talk about.
I did really like Leonard excuse “I want to see if I could laugh as a woman” and I loved how Sheldon ate it up without a second thought.
Now that I think about it, if it had been Penny (or anyone other less educated female), Sheldon’s response to “I wanted to see if I could laugh as a woman” would have been something along the lines of “Well, please stop it, you sound like a injured baboon”
I thought that when Leonard was trying to sneak Priya out of the apartment, he would open the door and Raj would be standing there. That’s a typical sitcom scenerio; I’m glad they went another way.
A plot hole I just realized: Didn’t Priya say she had to wait until Raj fell asleep to come over? Didn’t Raj watch Caprica before bed? His disbelief that Leonard would miss it seems to indicate so. If Caprica was finsihed before Priya snuck out, why didn’t Leonard watch it before she came over?
There’s a amusing irony in that the first episode where they mention Caprica aired a day after it was cancelled.
I don’t think it was exactly Zork. The game was strongly inspired by Zork, but seemed altered. Maybe their legal department couldn’t figure out how to get permission for Zork. It’s hard for me to believe Sheldon would have been so amused and challenged by a simple text adventure.
Is it just me or is this show becoming more “Two and 1/2 Men” with every episode? The geekiness is taking a back burner to babe-of-the-week.
Last I checked, imdb doesn’t have the actress who played Priya listed. Anybody know who she is?
Also, so far we have two hot sisters from these guys. Priya from this ep and Sheldon’s sister from season 1.
That’s my take on it, too - he didn’t mention it to Leonard because it wasn’t worth mentioning, in Sheldon’s opinion (just experimenting with lower lifeforms - no big deal).
“Do we explain to rabbits why we make them eat lipstick? No. Do we give cockroaches an explanation before trying out a new type of pesticide? No. So why on earth would I tell you that I’m putting moths in your cereal? Really Leonard, sometimes I wonder how you ever became a doctor.”
