Big Bang 10/28--"The Irish Pub Formulation"

I would have thought that mixing bugs in the food preparation would have violated some clause in the roommate contractual agreement.

The most unbelievable thing about the episode is that Sheldon’s only just discovered Frotz.

I loved the snow cone maker. I had one just like it when I was a kid.

TBBT is one of the few shows I don’t have to watch the clock to know when the end is coming. Most shows I watch are good enough that the end of the show comes unexpectedly, rather than telegraphed by the script. I know when it’s safe to flip back over to the game when the jokes run out.

Granted, I only started watching it last season based on a friend’s recommendation, but I agree that it seems to be running out of steam. The ‘babe an episode’ theme seems to be the writers’ fallback plan since Penny isn’t in the script with the busted leg and all.

Also, (unpopular opinion coming) I don’t like the cast (as a team) in general. Sheldon and Leonard are okay - I like the odd couple routine they have as roommates, but bringing Raj and Wolowitz into it just makes them seem barely more than throwaway cast members that they can turn into the butt of the “joke of the week”. Sheldon/Leonard might be able to carry a full episode, but it would get old real fast, I’m sure. And if these guys were so smart, would the writers have to depend upon the stereotype Jewish/Indian jokes rather than some more type of witty Sheldon-esque humor? Call me snooty, but I like it when Sheldon gets a good physics one-liner off on somebody.

Now that they’ve moved to Thursdays, I’m glad I’ve got my DVR set for *Community. *

Wow. I didn’t think much of that at all. Possibly the weakest one ever.

Whoever it was that said they were surprised that Sheldon could be so foxed by a text adventure was bang on the money.

*“I can’t believe you kissed my sister with moth mouth!”
*

Do people not remember text adventures? Undocumented commands, total lack of anything resembling logic, instant death for misusing items, obscure puzzles, commands that never did anything aside from a single instance (once again not documented), picky commands where using a slightly different word totally fails, and those were the quality mainstream ones. Knock off versions were usually even worse.

My friend had 4 different ones and in the day and age before walkthroughs we didn’t beat a single one. One I managed to get (I believed) about 3/4ths of the way through it before hitting a wall where nothing seemed to work. The others came much quicker. The worst one you could visit a single room building, a waterfall and a river and NOTHING we could figure out could cause anything to happen in any of those places.

The only way to get through most of those games was to try every variation of every command in every room and just hope something moved you forward. It wouldn’t be surprising for even Sheldon to just have to brute force large sections of the game and waste hours on it.

Of course I do. I’m 36, I used to love the things. I also played MUDs for years, well after the single player text adventure had died a death. I think the problem is that Sheldon did not come across or try anything complex, it was all pretty straight forward.

I think the worst bit was, IIRC, he came across a locked gate and his reaction was ‘well fair enough’. Funny, yes. Typical of what Sheldon should be doing, no.

It seems to me they have been subtly dumbing Leonard down. He seems more and more less a genius and more just a normal guy into geeky things.

Maybe the Dope wasn’t the only group of people complaining that he was becoming a caricature of himself. I still can’t stand that stupid laugh he does.

Your quoted text was about Leonard, but I think you’re referring to Sheldon no?

And as far as I can tell I’m the only one on the Dope who thinks Sheldon is a caricature of himself.

Yup, meant Sheldon, I always get their names mixed up.

That is a very good pick up.

Leonard knew she was coming but didn’t know when; he probably was pacing around and waiting for her to arrive.

I’d considered this, but it seems rather silly, especially in the days of DVRs where he could just pause it when she gets there. Also, does Sheldon not watch the show? Wouldn’t it be on while Leonard paced?

I have no idea how the actress was that played Prya, but I hope to find more of her work.

She is breathtaking. Wow.

It’s not hard to find this out (tv.com for example) but then again she does go by several different names.
