What, we don’t care anymore? The episode’s over and nobody’s even started a thread yet. Not surprising. The only laugh-worthy lines were the Armenian jokes. I think the series has officially run out of steam. Bernadette pregnancy by series end is a fait accompli.
What’s even sadder is that this is the second week in a row that the Two and a Half Men that followed was funnier than BBT.
Starting to get a creepy serial killer vibe from Sheldon. Think tonight was the second episode this season that showed him being deliberately cruel. The shirt thing was almost sadistic.
Thought there were some poor acting/directing choices. Leonard writhing against the corner of the wall and Raj’s hate you/love you schtick with Penny were ridiculously over the top.
Plot hole alert—most waitresses that drove a customer to tears would be fired, yet Penny appears to be still employed.
I liked that the girl Penny set Raj up with was Indian.
Plus, considering these guys are supposed to be somewhat intelligent, I am surprised they couldn’t just do about 2 minutes of Google searching to find any and all relatives of the video store owners.
In addition, every video store back in the day had a policy that after a certain period of time, you would simply be charged, IN FULL, for the price of a new video/DVD or whatever.
In other words, the damned thing had already been paid for and if anything, Leonard owed Sheldon $20 or something.
Stupid story.
As messed up as Leonard is, if I was him that would be the final straw that would drive me out. How can he continue to live with someone who subjected him to physical pain to resolve an issue that didn’t exist and all for a “Teachable moment”? What a psychopath.
Two clinkers in a row to start sweeps month. I’m beginning to think an old Nazi prison guard died at the moment Sheldon was born and his soul inhabits Sheldon’s body. To make your friend go through such physical discomfort is pretty twisted. Speaking of twisted, Raj is certifiable. He needs therapy and medication. The squirting flower bit would have been lame for Leave it to Beaver and is pathetic for this show. Time to have Sheldon shag Amy, Penny and Leonard get married, and Howard and Bernadette to have a baby and end this series.
Was she? She didn’t look particularly Indian to me (not that I couldn’t easily be wrong).
The actress is Morgan Hewitt, and here’s a photo.
Racist.
Not a stellar offering by any measure.
I really don’t get what the fuck they’re doing with Raj’s character.
He finally gets over his fear of talking to women, yet he’s still a pathetic mess when it comes to communicating with them. Do the writers not get that this is just a different version of the same tired joke they’ve been playing since the beginning of the series?
Were we watching the same show? From what I watched, Sheldon only wanted Leonard to wear the sweater for a little while. It was Leonard who chose to wear it continuously ‘to prove a point’ as he told Penny when she was urging him to take it off in her apartment.
You’re right, Sheldo being deliberately cruel just seems out of character. I prefer him saying and doing insensitive things because he doesn’t know any better.
Something better this way comes: this is how I’m spending the next week – WIL WHEATON dot NET
I picture the writers perusing our many discussions on the topic. “So we thought this show would draw a more intellectual audience, but clearly this is the price of popularity. OK fine. If the teeming masses can’t handle a simple metaphor, we’ll drop it down a notch and let the guy fumble around trying to communicate like the rest of us. Sheesh!”
The DVD storyline would have been better if the store had not shut down, but moved to another state or something, making it hard for Leonard to return the DVD (e.g. the store is such a small mom-and-pop store that the address is not available on the Internet)
Having the store shut down was stupid, because returning the late fee to the owner would not accomplish anything. It would not improve Sheldon’s credit score, and in fact after 7 years, even if that lost DVD had impacted his credit score, I think after 7 years these things go off your record if I’m not mistaken.
While having the store shut down and wanting to return the late fee to the owner was stupid, returning it to the next-of-kin was abominably stupid.
Other than the above stupidity of the premise, I thought it was in mostly character for Sheldon and Leonard to have behaved the way they did. If they had thought of a better premise for the “teachable moment” it might have worked.
Finally, fuck the writers regards to how they are treating Raj.
The problem with Raj’s character is that they always seem to push him to extremes. There’s no middle ground lately. The exchanges with Penny in this episode sum up the character perfectly this season. Just get the guy laid already!
Apparently not. From what I understood, Sheldon tricked Leonard into wearing the sweater “until the DVD matter was resolved”. Sheldon, of course, knew the store was out of business and that it would take a considerable length of time to “resolve” the matter, then appeared to take perverse joy in watching Leonard suffer.
The show has tried to address it in some episodes but the bottom line is there is really no reason any of them should be friends with Sheldon. He is funny, to be sure, but any real live person would have punched him in the head and walked away a long time ago.
Well, he did save Leonard’s life.
That was like 7+ years ago. He’s suffered long enough.
