Big Brother 12 - Season Thread

Britney for the win.

I am so ready for Rachel to leave. I hope that it is who the house is going to target. Can Ragan stay UTR enough to succeed enough as saboteur?

The Bro-gade is going to be tiresome this week.

I’m with you on Britney. My $5 pick was Lane and I still feel good about his chances. My wife picked Kristen so I already have the money. But we both decided by the third episode that we both preferred Britney. The fact that she’s only had limited face time has been offset by the pure comedy she brings.

Brendon has proved that he’s as shallow as a mud puddle and that harridan Rachel makes me cuss at the TV every time she’s on. Be gone, Bitch!

Something tells me that Ragan is going to blow the task of Mr. New Saboteur. Does he not realize that there’s no “honor” being bestowed on him by “America”? The ones voting for him want him to fail! I say that but I didn’t vote for him. Maybe there are those who expect great things from him. Not me.

ETA: A tiresome Bro-gade will be much more enjoyable than any more B&R horseshit.

I think Ragan was chosen because the audience is ambivalent about him. From the casual viewer’s perspective, will being the Saboteur help or hurt a player’s game? Hard to tell. So you can’t give it to someone you hate lest it help them, and not someone you love because it could hurt them. So you end up giving it to the most charismatic “nobody.” That’s Ragan. By contrast, Kathy went 5 straight days without being called to the DR. 5 days! When was the last time you saw a Kathy DR on a broadcast show? Zero charisma. This logic falls apart by the fact that Enzo was a close second, but I have no other explanation for why it would go to Ragan.

I have become a huge Britney convert. As an inveterate perv I was never against her, of course – way too hot for me to dislike – but I always wanted her to go “pretty far.” Now I want her to win it all in the worst way.

I’m a big fan of coordinated strategic play in all things, not just Big Brother. So I’m all about the Brigade. The way they sent Enzo and Hayden to infiltrate Brendon and Rachel’s alliance was genius – last night Rachel was assuring Enzo that she would go over all the dates and events with him so he would be able to win the next quiz HoH. Briiiiiiiiiiigade! – and the way they have Lane with Britney and Matt with Ragan and now Britney is also genius. The entire house always has at least one Brigade member in every conversation. So impressed by them. No matter how cocky or arrogant they come across on broadcast, it is well-earned. Their actual gameplay is flawless.

So I’m all about the Brigade, but now I want Britney to make final five with all four of them and then win HoH and Veto all the way to the end. No shame not getting her out when she wins immunity, and it would be the greatest underdog story since Chris beat out the all-girl alliance on Survivor that one year. I hope the eviction order goes: Rachel, Brendan, Kathy, Ragan, Enzo, Matt, Hayden, then Britney over Lane in the final 2. This is basically the Brigade’s plan anyway, so it’s not unreasonable.

Of all the Brigade’s side alliances, the only one that superceded the Brigade was Hayden and Kristen. Lane would dump Britney without a second thought, despite clearly crushing on her big time. And Matt would dump Ragan in a heartbeat. I really do think the dynamic of 3 big guys with one little guy is what makes the bond so strong. None of the big guys see Matt as a threat, so they think they’re effectively in a final 3 deal. And Matt thinks his big Mensa brain will carry him from final 4 to final 2. So they all see this final 4 as an easy ticket to final 3, which means no alternate alliance will ever be as attractive.

But Britney has masterfully managed her relationships inside the house, and she’s also clearly a competitor, having won 2 PoV’s and come within a tiebreaker of beating Rachel the quiz queen in an HoH quiz. The girl is a gamer, and her social strategy is top notch. (Plus she’s clearly a football fan. On tonight’s BBAD, the guys were wondering if Michael Vick was still in jail until Britney casually mentioned he played for the Eagles last year. I’m in love.)

PoV spoiler:Britney wins again, two in a row and three of the five that have been played. All three she played in, btw; the only two she didn’t win were the two she didn’t participate in. Britney got mad skillz.

Oddly, now that Britney doesn’t really have a gf in the house I like her better. Her DR snark is great, but I didn’t care for it when she would lay on the lawn with Monet being catty with everyone. Back then it just seemed like she wasn’t playing the game, just being a mean girl. Brendan really comes off as a needy, clingy guy in the broadcast edits. Rachel clearly seems to be tiring of him, at least the parts I see. I wouldn’t be shocked to see her try for a new alliance soon, willing to forfeit her sho-mance.

100%!

Ragan took Monet’s place. Britney really hasn’t changed at all this season. Not sure why the recappers hated her with Monet then loved her afterward. The only thing I can figure is that the recappers hadn’t yet realized how unbelievably douchey Brendan and Rachel really are, so back in week 2 when Britney and Monet were trashing them it seemed mean. Now that their record-setting douchiness is known, seeing her and Ragan trash them even more than Britney and Monet ever did seems more justified and less distasteful.

What really cracks me up is that the recappers trash the other houseguests more than Britney ever did, and when called on it they actually justify it by saying it’s different for them to do it. Gotta respect somebody so fully embracing hypocrisy.

Note that Brendan is way douchier than we see on the broadcast shows. Like, a million percent douchier. And Rachel is way more annoying. They are both getting sweetheart edits, if you can believe it. What is shown on broadcast is the least annoying footage the editors can find.

In addition to his douchiness, Brendan is also a homophobic misogynist. He delights in dismissing Ragan as a “bitch on her period”, and has outright said, and I quote, “some players have a fatal flaw in this game, and that’s an XX chromosome. Women are too emotional to play this game.”

Aside from examples of Brendan’s misogyny, do you have any examples of their douchiness? Just curious because they seem irritating but (at least for Brendan) generally harmless on the broadcast.

One of his more annoying traits is that he’s a one-upper. He never met a conversation where he doesn’t have a bigger and better personal anecdote. You ran a 10k? Brendan ran a marathon, barefoot. He then launched into a dissertation about he only did that because he lost his shoes the night before, but it’s better to run barefoot anyway and here’s why… (He’s right, but see next paragraph.)

Brendan is the ultimate know-it-all. There’s never been a subject he wasn’t an expert on, and he’s not a bit shy about sharing his extensive knowledge. This sharing often involves condescension. No matter what subject the houseguests are on about, Brendan can relate it to some esoteric field of academia that he can then expound upon.

Brendan lives in some bizarro world where he is the greatest thing ever. He loves talking about himself, and never fails to paint himself as the genius mastermind no matter what the situation.

Tonight’s pool tournament, for example. Hayden had sunk all of his balls and was going for the 8-ball, while Brendan hadn’t sunk a single one of his. Hayden accidentally skips the 8-ball off one of Brendan’s, which by house rules is a loss. Brendan goes to regale Rachel of his glorious victory. Instead of laughing about the lucky win, he takes great satisfaction explaining how his plan was to leave all his balls on the table blocking the pockets so that eventually Hayden would end up scratching the 8 or kissing one of his balls. He’s a mastermind, that Brendan. And no, there wasn’t a trace of sarcasm in his revisionist history.

There was a good example of douchiness from Rachel last night in the backyard, but I think she speaks for herself. Just imagine “HEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYY!!!”" 24/7 for over a month. I’d shoot myself.

No spoiler: I just remembered reading about this week’s PoV. Apparently there was one section that Brendan was pissed about something and started throwing things around the backyard while yelling that all the other HGs are “pussies.” He almost tagged both Britney and Jeff (of Jeff and Jordan) in his tantrum. Any chance we get to see that on broadcast?

heh, which reminds me of all the nonstop whining about how unfair the competitions are to poor Brendan. There’ll all designed specifically for small people with little feet, don’tcha know. Oh, you didn’t? Brendan will happily explain it every 10 minutes for the next week. On this point, Matt had a great line up in HoH yesterday talking about how if Rachel goes home Brendan will have a meltdown. “Watch the HoH competition is called ‘Tiny Ledge’ and all you do is stand on a tiny ledge.”

EDIT: More to the point, I recognize that most of these examples are very minor taken in isolation. That’s just it, though: they never stop. It’s not like Brendan occasionally lapses into one of these behaviors. He is always exhibiting some kind of douchey behavior, every minute of every hour of every day. What we see on broadcast is his least douchey, most normal behavior.

Fun fight on BBAD tonight, just a couple hours ago. I’m betting the producers are frantically scrambling to re-edit the Wednesday show, so be sure to tune in. Though I’ll be pissed if this cuts into the Jeff & Jordan time.
I won’t spoil the fight for anyone, but Brendan was involved and he did another one of those great douchisms. There’s namecalling back and forth, and it gets really heated, then someone calls him a neanderTHal. Without missing a beat, Brendan says: “First of all, it’s pronounced neanderTal.” All the houseguests within earshot openly laughed at him to his face, as did I at home. Just too funny.

Later when the rest of the house is rehashing the fight, Matt again has the best line of the night. After Britney shares Brendan’s neanderTal line, Hayden rhetorically asks “How would you even know that?” Matt of the Quick Wit replies “Because he is one. That’s his heritage.”
I think Ragan’s systematic dressing-down of Rachel, dispassionately and logically, HAS to be my favorite fight on BB ever. It was just brutal in its honesty and directness.

My previous post was written to be spoiler-free, but shortly afterward I decided it had just a bit too much hint of spoiler for those who want to be 100% spoiler free. If you just avoid stuff like who wins what and who goes on the block, feel free to read the box. (Thanks to Marley for adding the box.)

I realized that because the fight happened last night – after all the PoV stuff – it will be saved for Thursday’s show.

I about burst out laughing when Brendon pitched that ball down the lane.

All hail the Veto Queen, 3 for 3. Quite impressive. (She did not participate in the other two.)

Was Jeff busting on B&R with his “the good thing about meeting in the BB house is we got to be friends first before we started dating”? It warms my heart to see how Jeff still watches Jordo talk with that look of genuine love, the diametric opposite of the creepy stalker way Brendan looks at Rachel.

Every time I hear Brendan profess his love for Rachel – note how she is very sparing with the “L” word – I always think back to last season when J&J were laughing how pathetic they would be if they were acting like that after only 8 weeks. Brendan started in with it in week 3. Rachel hasn’t said it back to Brendan in weeks, often responding with “thank you.” Ouch!

Anyone notice that Britney was holding back tears at the end of the Veto meeting? Girl stands up for herself in direct confrontation, but she always breaks down in tears right after, as she did for a while after that meeting. Enzo has made note of this as an exploitable weakness, and most of the Brigade has identified her as the biggest target due to her Veto prowess. Matt has said that the worst possible final 5 would be the Brigade + Britney. Us Britney fans will need her to start winning HoH or PoV every single week after this coming. (Where hopefully Brendan joins his lady love in jury.) The Brigade smartly wants Kathy in the final 5 with them.

Brendan actually called himself Rachel’s “knight.” Ugh. What a complete tool. The best though, was Rachel getting mad at Kathy for being happy she won. She came off like a petulant child who thinks she’s the princess. How dare you be happy for yourself and not sad for MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Those two deserve each other, but each week I see Rachel getting more and more fed up with Brendan. I think they’ll stay together because it would seem like a double-loss to Rachel if they didn’t, but she’s going to make his life hell and he’s going to love it.

Nice metaphor Rachel.

How pathetic was the Brendan (athlete?) at bowling? That challenge was obviously designed for players with small feet.

And Rachel actually does the exact same thing when SHE wins! How many times have we seen her run and jump into Brendan’s arms? Houseguests, please get her OFF of my TV tonight!

I just saw this posted on the IMDB message board and I had to post it here, it was so funny

Yes, please! Please let it be Rachel that goes tonight. Brendan’s a douche to the houseguests, but other than last night, he hasn’t been that awful to watch on TV. Rachel on the other hand, I never want to see or hear from again. Brendan can’t do anything on his own, and Rachel’s the one who won the two HOHs, so hopefully everyone realizes she’s the bigger threat and gets rid of her. Ugh, she’s just a horrible whiny person. Get off my screen!

No actual spoilers, just Brigade plotting and scheming from last night:
Yep, that’s the Brigade’s opinion. They’ve also been planting the seed – via Enzo and Hayden, who they sent in to get close to Brendan over a week ago – that Brendan is going home because of his behavior. The plan is that Rachel will be the one doing the mental prep for competition while Brendan expects to go home. When he gets blindsided by staying, he won’t have the mental focus to compete for HoH. It’s actually a fairly decent plan.

Matt & Hayden were brainstorming “worst case scenarios” last night, and they came up with some good plans.

 • Brendan wins HoH, Matt & Ragan go on the block, Ragan wins veto, Britney goes up and home.

 • Ragan wins HoH, Matt tells him to put up Brendan against Matt since there is no reason to create any enemies by making them pawns. Matt & Ragan know each other are tight so no worries. If Brendan then wins veto, Ragan will put up Kathy to ensure his good friend Matt stays.

 • If Britney wins, Lane does the exact same thing since they are close like Matt & Ragan.

The Brigade has done a fantastic job strategically so far. The problem they have now is they absolutely must maintain secrecy, so it gets increasingly difficult to work the nominations as the numbers dwindle. They still seem to have a pretty good plan. It’ll be interesting to see how long they make it.

Note that Enzo and Hayden have been cultivating the “I have nobody” card for a while now, using that to get close to Brendan & Rachel (and be able to listen in on their plans) and also keep the Brigade as secret as possible. So far it’s been flawless execution.
As much as I hate Brendan, that hatchet job with his ex-fiancee was way uncool, IMO. As was the one last week on Kristen, who never did anything to anybody. Do they always do these? Last season the only home interviews I remember were the one blowing bunnies and unicorns for Jeff and Jordan and the one where Chima’s grandmother talked about how Chima stands up for herself. I mean, geez, they found someone to defend Chima, but Kristen and Brendan get attacked? What’s that about?

Then again, it seemed weird to me how they edited the fight. It was on BBAD so I actually saw it with my own eyes, as opposed to read recaps about it. On broadcast, after Britney mocks Brendan’s “early man” walk she turns to him and says “Yeah, you’re one to talk!” Talk about what? She was responding to Brendan saying “Why don’t you take Nick’s balls out of your purse?” Cutting this out made her comment not make sense. Then at the door at the end, when Britney was looking back in the yard holding her hand out at Brendan, he had just been saying “How do you feel knowing you’re in here while Nick’s out banging tons of girls?” Her hand gesture was a presentation of Brendan in all his classy glory, but cutting out the Nick comment made that not make sense either.

Nick is Britney’s fiancee, btw, and I can’t imagine he’s happy about her hugging Lane before the comp tonight. Also of note is that after the fight with Brendan she went to the hammock to cry on Lane’s shoulder, again with hugging. Though she does kiss her engagement ring when casting votes, so that’s something, I guess.
