Big Brother 13 Season Discussion Thread

Ugh.

Tonight was the premiere of Big Brother 13, my guilty summer pleasure which I’m not so sure is going to be all that pleasurable this time. Since no one has started a season thread yet, I’m volunteering for the ignominy of having my name attached as the thread starter…

Have at it.

Anyway…I don’t have a problem with any of the new people. As a matter of fact, I sympathize with them. This mixing of old and new contestants isn’t really fair to the new, at all. Same as with Survivor, these reality contests require a skill set that gets better with practice, and the old contestants have more practice. Not fair at all.

Now, the oldsters…I could deal with Brenchel. Rachel makes me want to smack her and Brandon always comes across as slightly developmentally disabled (not mentally, but emotionally). I could deal with J&J…I actually LIKE J&J. But I had a really bad feeling that the third duo was going to be Dick and Danielle, before they ever actually stepped through the door. And when they did, my stomach dropped. I don’t know for sure if I’m going to go the whole season. It depends on if Dick is going to be true to form or if he’s improved. And Danielle just gives the impression that she would rather be anywhere than there, and with anyone other than her father.

Seriously, my stomach was in knots from the time Dick stepped through the door until the show was over. Bleah.

I didn’t realize it premiered tonight. I was on the fence about watching this season, but I hadn’t heard about the old and new contestant thing. When I read “Dick and Danielle” in your post, my decision was made. I won’t waste a second watching those scumbags again. I hope you enjoy the show, but I’m out!

I didn’t see Dick’s season so I don’t know what his story is, but I frickin’ hate Rachel. I really don’t know if I can stand hearing her voice for another summer.

All I can commit to is staying with it long enough to see Rachel leave. I have some “favorites” among the new crowd, but I can’t be sure enough of my first impressions to name them. But the best I can say for the layout so far is that I’m not 100% disgusted yet. The twists could be fun.

Yes, unfortunately, I caught the show tonight. Daniele Donato is not yet 25 yrs and she has the face of a 45 yr old. Agreed, she looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. I am probably watching as it is my guilty summer pleasure. Gawd I hate Rachel’s laugh, more than I hate Evel [sic] Dick.

I started watching during the BB11 season so I don’t mind Dick at all, having almost zero clue of who he is. Rachel annoys me to no end, and will really hurt my early enjoyment of the show. (That laugh, ugh.) But worst of all is Jeff & Jordan, who I was heartily rooting would not be one of the three veteran couples. I love Jeff & Jordan; the only thing that can happen on this season is I end up liking them less, which is a bummer.

EDIT: For the record, I’m glad I don’t know who Dick is and look forward to learning about him through his actions in the house this season. Totally don’t mind info from his season, but I’m not looking for it and any post with the idea of “Oh, Ellis, this guy is such a dick because blah blah blah” won’t serve any purpose other than to drag my enthusiasm for BB13 down to that of the other posters. Why bother when you can just kick a puppy instead? heh.

+1

I nearly threw the remote at the TV when she walked through the door.

In my opinion, having a couple of the most hated players in this game play again will make this season pretty entertaining. The more unstable the characters, the better. Rachel and Dick makes sparks fly which keeps things interesting. This should be a pretty good season.

Oh, and I happen to like Rachel’s laugh.

Oh, and to top it all off, Brenchel is engaged. ENGAGED! Neither one of them is emotionally stable enough to be DATING, let alone engaged.

The contrast between Brenchel and J&J is interesting. Brendan reminds me of an Asperger’s sufferer…all of his social interaction seems superficial and feigned, like he’s always about 1/2 second behind on his reactions. Jeff is just…Jeff. Laid-back, fairly adult, and most of all, GENUINE. If he gives off a false note, it’s usually because he’s trying not to show his amusement over something.

Rachel is ALL surface. I’m not even convinced that we’ve ever actually seen Rachel. Instead, we’ve primarily been exposed to glitterRACHEL*/glitter*. Those hair extensions double as metaphors. And what an annoying persona, too. I have nothing against earthy women…I love a good innuendo/double-entendre conversation as much as anyone, but that’s ALL THAT COMES OUT OF HER MOUTH! You can only be the Monty Python “Say No More” guy for so long before people just want to stuff you down the toilet. Jordan, on the other hand, has never seemed to be anything but real. She’s sweet, she’s genuine, she’s…NICE. And while, yes, she isn’t the sharpest cheese in the shop, she’s AWARE of it and isn’t afraid to ask for explanations.

But the interaction is the tell, with these two couples. Brenchel is incredibly co-dependent and completely bound up in each other to the exclusion of everyone else. J&J are comfortable with each other, loving and attentive without being obsessive, and playfully relaxed. When Brenchel is being playful, there’s a disturbing mania about it.

In short (too late!), J&J remind me of a real couple, almost a couple like my parents. Brenchel reminds me of a relationship between two mental ward inmates, two really vulnerable people reaching out to each other in desperation and trying with great determination to hide both of those aspects.

Got to admit, I love Rachel, Jordan and Evil Dick going head to head in this one. They made quite an impression on that bald big mouth (has Russel shaved his head and grown a beard?).

The noobs didn’t choose partners wisely. Porsche is a liability. Dominick got stuck with Mr. Attitude. (which is probably good for him if nominated) The two gals are clueless. I really don’t see that the noobs have much of a chance other than getting the golden key for a few weeks as their numbers are decimated, just like it was at Redemption Island.

Just for reference, in Big Brother 12 - Season Thread, started 06-30-2010, 05:11 PM by Southern Yankee, in this post I included a list of the Big Brother (US) players up to that point.

I had hoped to get some action on a “pick the worst” sort of follow-up thread, just for the hell of it.

An update of the franchise is available at this site

It was odd that Julie (“But first”) Chen didn’t seem to have been there on the day they taped the house guests entering the house. She was seen (apparently) addressing them on a screen while they were still on the doorstep, but there were no shots that indicated she was actually on the set that day.

I don’t know that they’ve ever actually shown her being present on the front door set in the first ep. When you think about it, though, it is kind of weird…the front door is right THERE where she was supposedly doing her intro stuff. I wonder WHEN they insert them into the house? If it’s at like 3AM or something for whatever reason, I imagine that Julie just tapes her “Blah and blah and blah, enter the house…” segments and they do a playback.

You have to keep in mind that despite the things they script to make it seem like the houseguests JUST NOW went into the house, this was all something like 1 or 2 weeks ago. None of us have ANY idea how long it was between the newb 8 going in and the first old duo going in. Or how long from that to the 2nd, or the 3rd, either. It COULD have all been within a half hour or it could have taken a couple of days.

That’s what made it seem so weird this time. We saw her at the front of the house just a few minutes prior, and she’s apparently standing just to the side of the front door on the “house front” set, but she’s talking to a video image of the house guests standing at the front door. I already believe that most of the ‘reality’ that I’m seeing on this show is anything but, so this doesn’t help.

Very much so. I was somewhat relieved that they were just as charming and likable on BBAD last night as I remember them. Hopefully it doesn’t all end in tears.

Heh, it was funny when Dick smugly touted his specialness by being the only winner in the house.

Regarding Rachel, Jordan and Dick going head to head, last night on BBAD……it’s pretty clearly the newbs vs the vets, so it could be a while before they go after each other. It distresses me to see J&J being closely allied with Brenchel, but whatever, I’ll just have to deal.(Spoiler is mostly speculation, and could already be wrong, but it’s info not from broadcast so I’m boxing it.)

Live feed spoilerificness:
Dick’s GONE! They called him into the Diary Room and he disappeared. May be a family emergency. But he’s officially gone…Danielle got a Golden Key and his pic’s gone to b&w. They’re still having a nomination and eviction this week, though. They can just cancel out a double elim later in the season to even it out.

But DICK’S GONE! YEEEEEEEHAWWWW!!! I can watch without total self-evisceration now!
My cable went out last night so I had to watch online today. When the couple twist was announced I immediately hoped to see Brenchel go up against Dr. Will and Mike Boogie. I thought that would be good competition. I think J&J are not devious enough to compete against Brenchel.

I shouldn’t have looked at the last spoiler, but that’s ok, I’m not upset about the news at all.

Big Brother 2022 (Official Site) - Stream Live Feeds doesn’t appear to have those polls like the ones from previous seasons where you vote for favorite, most likely to be evicted, things of that sort. Am I missing a link to such things?

He was basically just a really obnoxious ass who liked to pick fights with everyone in the house. Sometimes he was justified, but a lot of times he was just being a dick (the name fits him really well).

Anyway, I too was pretty disappointed when I saw him walk through the door, but the day he and the metalhead get into it ought to be interesting.
