Big Brother 13 Season Discussion Thread

Big Brother is the show I love to hate. There’s lots of stuff, big and small to hate about it. Tonight I was reminded of a small thing. It’s that “schwing” sound that they add when a key is pulled out of the unnecessarily enormous, heavy round box. Just think, at some point someone said, “I know a way to make the show better - we’ll make the plastic keys go ‘schwing’, like they’re big metal swords, when they’re pulled out of the box. That’ll be great!”

Also, the fact that the key(s) of the safe house guest(s) is not only put into a velvet drawstring bag, but that the bag has to be put in a decorative wooden box with a clasp. Hey producers, why not have them put the wooden box into a bigger metal box and then put all that in a treasure chest with 15 golden padlocks and then lock the treasure chest in the Mystic Room of Secrets with the Platinum Key of Honor. The Platinum Key of Honor would, of course, sound like Conan the Barbarian’s sword when it was removed from the door’s lock.

Thanks a lot! I’ve never paid a bit of attention to that sound effect but now that you’ve pointed it out, it’s all I’ll notice!

Actually, I hate to say this, but I thought Rachel did a great job with the Have/Have not challenge. She came across well.

I don’t remember the name of Porche’s partner, but he actually thinks his little group is going to save him with their 3 votes. I count it 5 from the old timers, Adam’s vote = 6 and Porsche = 7, leaving the new team one short of victory. THe POV may change this but I think the dude should start packing his bags.

Porsche is up, too, so she can’t vote. It’s a tie if everyone votes the way they’re supposed to, but a) Rachel gets to break that tie, and she wants Keith gone, and b) there’s drama in the unaired realm (largely due to Keith’s paranoia…so far he’s alienated Dominic and Lawon out of his three allies), and the Regulators may not be as regulation as they’d planned to be.

With this new system they have of partnering, what happens if someone wins the veto, but their partner ends up going home? Do they have to partner up with a new person, or are they just on their own?

And the way it works now, the HOH puts up a duo, rather than just selecting two individuals who may otherwise be unconnected. If the HOH decides to put up someone whose partner went home, and is now their own, do they have to chose another “single” to be up there with them on the elimination block, or can they also chose to put up someone who’s still part of a duo?

I may have missed a trick or two with the new way of nominating duos, but isn’t it the case that the “stay behind” individual is safe from nomination until the Final 10? I suspect the rules will be changed again when there are 10 left. What did I miss?

Is this the only major network show left that is still broadcast in non-HD and non-widescreen? 'Cause I’d sure like me some HD Cassie.

That’s what I’m gleaning from it too. That the partners would be disbanded when they hit 10. The first person who gets the golden housekey is in a great position.

I’m really curious what the background is on jayjay’s spoiler. Do we know the details yet?

The stay behind individual is safe. But what I’m talking about is what happens if a person wins the veto, takes themselves off the block and the HOH has to put up another person (who at this point would have to be part of a duo anyway), and the veto-winner’s partner went home. The veto winner wouldn’t get the immunity since they took themselves off the block.

I think you guys have given the complicated new rules more thought than the producers did. Doesn’t matter. I have a feeling that BB always changes the rules to suit the situations as they develop.

My guess?

If the person wins then his or her partner goes home by default.

Veto takes both partners off the block and forces HoH to nominate another partnership.

stpauler, first spoiler or second spoiler?

Sorry! First spoiler (time stamp:07-08-2011, 01:32 PM)

No one knows much of anything on that one, other than that it happened. My understanding, from the voiceover at the end of last night’s ep is that it will be covered on Wednesday.

Kind of a boring veto episode last night. Although, I’ll be rather happy to see Eric go. He’s seems to have a problem with simple math and influencing people.

I was embarrassed for him when he called those two out. It was like he had never watched a reality show.

Are you talking about Keith, the deacon? If so, yeah, he is so going home tonight. The overly cocky ones always get an early exit. The math just isn’t there, and even if it was, he’s doing a good job of annoying his alliance members.

If there’s one thing you want to do in this game, at least in the early stages, it’s keep your head down. People on the show always like to complain about “floaters,” but floaters can do and make it surprisingly far each year just by virtue of not pissing anyone off or otherwise acting like an asshole. In fact, during Evel Dick’s original season, I seem to recall that a floater made it into the top three, beaten only by Dick and Danielle themselves.

Yes, Zack.

One rule to remember when you go on social survival shows like this one…paranoia can be a valuable survival skill, but visible paranoia is NOT. Suspect everyone! That’s not only fine, but essential. But you DO NOT go into ranting tirades about how this person or that person is working with THE ENEMY etc.etc.etc. All that does is brand you as the crazy-ass psycho.

I’m beginning to like Rachel. I’m not hearing her annoying laugh, instead, I’m seeing a different side to her the last two days. Whatever his name is (Porsche’s partner) I’m hoping he takes the bus tonight.

Still wondering what the personal problem was that sent Dick packing. Are there any rumors floating?

Lots of rumors: girlfriend’s sick (not related to Dani, so she didn’t get sent too), asked to be removed, kicked out, HE’S sick…but nobody but Dick and the producers know the real reason, and Dick’s not telling. He has a ranting video out taking people to task for all the rumors and denying them all. Then basically telling everyone to mind their own business.

And yeah…I kind of think a certain deacon’s going to be having a long talk with the pastor when he gets home…
