Did anyone watch this week? I was away for business in Dallas and didn’t realize that with the time change the show would be on an hour earlier. So I missed it.
How did the teams do? Who lost the most? What was this week’s challenge? Who got the boot?
The teams had a challenge to bake as many sweet treats as they possibly could in a two hour period and then had to sell their baked goods at a local shopping area. The team who made the most money won a day at the spa getting massages and pedicures and what not AND ALSO won the right to choose which person’s weight on the Red team wouldn’t be counted in this week’s challenge due to them having an extra person. The Red team won the Bake Off challenge. While they were at the Spa, the Blue team went back to the house and worked out.
At the weigh in, the Red team chose to not count Lizzeth’s weight as she weighed the less and figured she would have the least to lose. Both teams did very poorly this week. I believe the Blue team only lost 13 pounds (Mo didn’t lose ANY!) and the Red team I think lost 4 (Matt actually GAINED 3 pounds). It was very emotional on both sides, they could feel themselves getting smaller, they didn’t understand why they didn’t lose more weight. So off went the Red team to the fated “Refrigerator Room” to vote off Lizzeth.
That’s pretty much the gist!
Thanks so much for the re-cap.
Which one is Lizzeth again?
And I thought their weight loss would slow, but I didn’t think it would practically stop. BUT - if they are feeling smaller, the exercise is working!
I started off being torn about this show. On the one hand, it’s exploitative. But on the other, it’s a real chance for people to lose weigth and become healthy. I’m torn no longer.
The contestants obviously weren’t told about how weight loss works. They were in shock when they didn’t lose the large amounts of weight the second week as they did the first. Some were in tears. Any good dietician would have informed the teams that the first week is mostly water weight, and that you can’t expect to continue the same loss on a weekly basis. If you did, it would be unsafe. My heart broke when I saw Maurice and Matt’s faces when they got their readings. I can’t see that again, so I won’t be watching anymore.
One horrible part of the show was the elimination segment. There were two camps of people. One wanted to see Lizzeth go, as she had the least weight to lose and, thus, was likely to have the least contribution to the team. The other camp wanted to see one of the guys go (middle aged guy with facial hair and he’s a smoker. Can’t remember his name, let’s call him Dan) because he bailed on some of the workout sessions.
Dan voted first to eliminate Lizzeth. A woman and Lizzeth both voted to eliminate Dan. The next guy (Ryan?) said that it was a hard decision, yadda, yadda, but one person had not worked as hard. Then he looked at Dan and said, "I’m sorry, Dan.
" Lifted up his plate cover to reveal the card, then ,“But I voted for Lizzeth.” She was hurt, Ryan? was laughing his fool head off, and I wanted to punch him.
After Lizzeth left, one of the women told Ryan(?) about what a jerk he is. His response: It’s not like we’re trying to cure cancer; if I can have some fun doing this, I will. He didn’t even see what a hurtful thing he had done.
Ugh. Glad I didn’t see the show.
I had decided not to watch it after the first episode because of the voting people out gimmick. It would have much more satisfying to watch these folks “compete” with themselves and not make such a game out of it.
So good. Another hour freed up for something else.

I had decided not to watch it after the first episode because of the voting people out gimmick. It would have much more satisfying to watch these folks just compete with themselves. Voting each other out is a totally non-supportive thing to do. Works okay with Apprentice and Survivor, but not for something as personally important as weight loss.

Apologies if this double-posts. My connection’s acting up.
I remember when I first started working out, I gained a lot of muscle weight while simultaneously shedding the body fat. I wonder why this show doesn’t look at the body fat loss, instead of just raw weights. After all, they did measure their body fat on the first show. I would wager that Matt’s weight “gain” was mostly water weight and new muscle.
I much prefer the style of the male trainer–he is giving them a lifetime strategy. I don’t think the woman’s strategy can be maintained long-term without significant effort and her screaming at them to push harder.
If this week is anything like last week, the show will be replayed a few times, also on USA network. I caught one of the re-runs for the 1st week to introduce me to the show as I missed the original showing. I think one of the re-showings is on Saturday night.
Thanks for the info guys! I’ll be sure to look for re-runs!
