Look, i know the answer to this question…I wont say in case it influences your choice.
Both are giants of the music world, both have been musical idols for years, but these similarities often cause confusion when the question is asked
“who is cooler- Billy Corgan or Dave Grohl”
You should take into account their simple ‘coolness’ and other factors such as their character and musical ability.
I know which one of them is cooler, my friend also claims he knows which one is cooler…(he is wrong), i just hope you all do as well.

How exactly do you define “cool” though?
Musically, I’d say Billy all the way. Yes, Dave can play both the drums and guitar, but I really love how Billy uses the guitar, it really evokes a strong emotion from me. Plus, I think Billy’s songwriting skills are far superior to Dave’s. But I guess that’s just my opinion, as is everything else in this post.
What I really admire about Corgan though is going from Mellon Collie and doing something entirely different with Adore. The Pumpkins were at the height of their career and probably the most popular band of the mid 90’s and to produce Adore was a really welcome change. They could have easily gotten another drummer (who wouldn’t want to be with the pumpkins at that point in their career?) and Billy could have played similar to the Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness sound. He knew that a lot of people wouldn’t like the album as much but he did what he wanted to anyway.
Even if you don’t like the Pumpkins’ last two records, or any of their records for that matter, you have to respect Billy for doing something different and not just rehashing the same stuff as a lot of bands do these days.
I admire them both, but I think Dave has a better sense of self-depricating humor. Billy is more talented, but Dave is more cool.
