I was not criticizing DSYoung, I was pointing out a semantic Pet Peeve of mine. He thought that “whine” was a matter of fact description about complaints, I pointed out that that is an incorrect usage and that the word has negative connatations. And I would add to Liberal’s comment a suggestion that when you are Moderating, use some moderation. You can be very firm and assertive without being aggressive. You don’t have to use loaded and vicious words when you are explaining to someone why she or he is getting a warning or is out of line.
I have no dog in this hunt and have not read the details of the quarrel. But I don’t need to look up the words in a dictionary to know that complain and whine mean virtually the same thing, but whine has a much more unpleasant connotation.

As hinted at earlier, this thread seemed like a nice place to post because of the joke hijack going on and, as stated explicitly, I didn’t want to give people a venue for a bunch of “whine” puns and jokes.
