Black music videos

Why do all black men in music videos have to be pimps and women whores???
Where are all the other role models?
The other day I saw a video (don’t ask who) where the black women were being portrayed as animals on the African svelte. They were practically naked - now if this isn’t sending a strong message about black women, I don’t know what is.
Drives me nuts - who is driving this and what have they to gain.
I can’t stand Whitney Houston but at least she didn’t dress like a ho and have some pimp doing rap in her songs.

Funny. When I read this, I immediately thought of Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf”.

You aren’t the only one is tired of it.

Er, I think you mean “African Veldt.”

The bitter cynic in me says because it sells.

It’s not just black musicians doing it, either.

And people wonder why I no longer listen to popular music or watch music videos. Because most of it sucks.

If wearing a panda suit and singing about happiness and rainbows sold albums thats exactly what black/white/green and yellow pop stars would be doing. Guinastasia nailed it, they do it because it works, why else?

You aren’t the only one who is tired of it, goshdarnit!

I bet that’s the “I like the way you move” video by Outkast.

Now, Bobby Brown…

:dubious: Now, I’m not a bigot, but…

But what, Ilsa_Lund? Don’t leave me hanging. I’m dying to know.

Whenever anyone says Panda, I automatically think of sex.

I thought the exact same thing, NoClueBoy.

Thats a crappy song too.
Andres - ‘Hey Ya’ is better.
I did some quick math and it is exactly 11 times better.

Reminds me of a game I used to play with friends, called “Rap video bingo.” In any rap video, you had to find at least 8 of the 10 following items, or else what you were watching wasn’t a true rap video.

  1. Swimming pools
  2. Low-rider cars
  3. Guns
  4. Wads of cash, either being held in hand and waved at the camera, or raining down from the sky/ceiling
  5. Women in bikinis or hot pants, shaking their butts at the camera
  6. References to women as ‘bitches’ (cutting between clips of women and clips of dogs was also acceptable)
  7. Beds with black satin sheets
  8. Champagne
  9. Boom boxes or DJ tables
  10. Gold chains or other large, flashy jewelery

It got boring after a while (particularly since none of us really liked rap), since well over 90% of all rap videos (including ones by female rappers) passed the test.

I know exactly what you mean. The other day I was watching a video with a friend and he turned to me and said
“Oh. my. GOD, Ender, look at her butt. It is soooo big”
and I said “yeah, she looks like one of those rap guys girlfriends”
“Who understands those rap guys? They only talk to her because she looks like a total prostitute, ok? I mean her butt. It’s just so big!”
“I can’t believe it’s so round!” I replied. “It’s just out there. I mean…it’s gross! Look, she’s just so…black!”

I like big butts and I can not lie. You other brothers can’t deny
that when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face, you get sprung.

But I know y’all wanted that 808 when you heat that B-A-S-S bass.
{Boom} {Boom} {Boom} {ta-TA-ta}

That girl throughout but especially at the end with Big Boi is hawt.

Wanna pull up tough 'cause you know that butt is STUFFED!

I don’t want none unless you got buns hon.

I like rap videos. its like watching a cartoon or something. the major question you should be aksing yo bad selves is,“when I blow up, should I get the Benz or the Bentley?”

De La Souls ‘phenomenon’ video takes the piss out of rap videos really well.

Said the guy with a steering wheel sticking out of his pants (bada boom).

Really, why do people ask questions like this? Here’s a news flash to all such askers: the reason any business does anything is because those who run the business believe it will make the business more money. And this is not a bad thing, per se.

You can argue that the business was wrong and doing Y will not actually make them more money. You can argue that even though Y will make the business more money the business shouldn’t be allowed to do it (or just shouldn’t do it) because it causes other harms. You can argue that the business may make more money in the short term but will lose in the long term (or vice versa).

But don’t keep freaking asking why the business did Y because the answer ain’t gonna change.
