Erm, I wasn’t really sure if this should go here or in Cafe Society. Since it is really more of a cultural kind of question, I decided on GQ.
I’m a white guy who enjoys looking at nude models. I like women of all ethnic groups. I also love small breasts. I don’t like the classic “porn star” look, with the gigantic breasts. Large breasts turn me off, in fact. My “research” has revealed that I can easily find natural-looking models with small breasts in all ethnic groups… except Black.
Nearly every Black nude model I come across has huge breasts. Maybe 1 in 50 has small breasts. Granted, finding photos of Black models is more difficult than finding White or Asian models, so I don’t see nearly as many. But when I look at Black female celebrities, or at Black women I see in real life, I notice pretty much the same variety of breast sizes that I notice in women of other ethnic groups.
So why do large breasts so completely dominate among Black nude models? It has also occured to me that Black models are usually wearing very heavy makeup, while models of other ethnic groups often appear to be wearing very little in comparison.
My only guess is that, while White, Asian and Latina porn is targeted at White men, Black porn is targeted specifically at Black men. Do Black men typically prefer huge breasts and heavy makeup?
I have no interest in porn (being a petite delicate flower), but I have taken lots of Life Drawing and Artistic Anatomy classes (where we draw nude models).
I can’t remember the black female models we drew being extra-endowed. And we had all sorts of models—young, old, fat, thin, etc. Some black models were larger-breasted, but not any more than in other ethnic groups. At least not to my recollection.
However, it did seem like the black and latino male models tended to be more well-endowed. I know that there is much discussion about guys from these ethnic groups being larger, and that this has been debunked by some people. But when you are talking about Life Drawing classes, well, I figure that these guys have to decide to be models. I am guessing that guys with less of an endowment were not drawn to be art models. Come to think of it, few of the white models were actually small or anything . . . (But there was this one guy, who when it got a little too cold in the room, a certain part of him just disappeared. I mean, disappeared. I had to draw this hole where a certain part ordinarily would be. Weird. He didn’t look very pleased, either, but what could he do? He was being paid to stand still.)
Maybe you are spending too much time on these boards and not enough on your research. Perhaps you are within the margin of error. Increase your sample size in order to find more of the size you want.
There is a large sub-genre of black female quasi-fetish porn directed at all men who like big, “thick” (not necessarily fat) women. If these women have huge breasts, all the better to go with their big thighs and butts. Although there are a few white women (mainly of eastern european and Italian origin) like this, with this “thick” (without being obese) body type, it seems to be predominately black or black-hispanic. Most white women built like this tend to be big flabby blobs, whereas black women built like this can pick up washer-dryer combos and throw them at you if they are displeased with you.
I question your observation, but then I realized that my frame of reference, like that of yosemite, is art models and nudes. We’ve got a bunch of books around our house showing photographs of nudes, of all races, from all angles, and between those pages I’ve seen ample examples of black women with very athletic builds and average-to-small breasts. Maybe if you branched out to look for photos that were designed for sculptors to work from, you might find stuff that is more titillating to you.
I can’t speak to your cultural questions, except to add what other people have said. In African-american culture there seems to be far less of a hangup about women having thin bodies. It fascinates researchers, actually, especially those with such concerns about teenage girls and body image.
What’s so fascinating? Even now, there are very few women of color in the media and many of them could be considered “white” if you reduced the amount of pigment in their skins.
Since girls seem to use “famous” girls/women as examples of self image and since most of those images are of white, blonde, thin girl; then why would African or Latin American girls/women use those images as templates?
That way lies self-loathing and I think there’s been enough of that.
No matter how thin they can be, they REALIZE they can never be blonde and white and the two go hand in hand. Combine that with a society that LIKES a woman with breasts and hips, DESPITE what the “media” tell us and you have a culture that’s not starving themselves to fit the lies of the media.
I don’t know much about porn, but based on my knowledge of American media in general I think this is staggeringly unlikely. If pornography featuring black women is targeted at any racial group, it’s probably white men. If black women are portrayed differently than, say, Asian women, it would be because the common sexual/ethnic stereotypes about black women (tough, dominant) are different than those about Asian women (delicate, submissive).
alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.black.females has lots of ‘moderately endowed’ pics that are taken (‘stolen’) from a few of the popular paysites. I’ve never noticed extreme makeup even in photos targeted to a black male audience; the women will often tend to be ‘thicker’ however.
I understand your point, but maybe more concern is in order, given the incidence among the population of obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, stroke and diabetes.
The beauty of the artistic nude comes from the shape of the body in general, not just in the size guy’s dick. Jesus! If a guy’s got a nice physique, that would make much more of an impact on his decision to be a nude model than his endowment. This isn’t porn we’re talking about here, it’s classy art.
