Blitz! Good for when I'm bored, but I got questions.

I play Blitz on the iPod while stuck waiting for responses from other departments. I’m never going to get good enough to earn enough coins to try out the big boosts offered, but I’m not sure how buying coins works. I can afford to piss away a fiver to check it out, but I’d be annoyed if the unspent coins only lasted for an afternoon. I can’t find anything other than a basic tutorial online, and that just has stuff I already knew from back in the Popcap days when you could play without the time limit - I even know the sound it makes when there’s no matches. Anybody here ever buy extra coins?

Never. If you play with friends on Facebook, you’ll be overwhelmed with tons of extra coins in no time. Also, be sure to check back everyday to get the Daily Spin in, no need to buy coins when they just give them to you. But coins don’t expire. They’re there forever.

  • Yes, you may touch me.

Quite impressive, Mr. Bailey. Unfortunately, I don’t do Facebook, so that option isn’t open to me.

Ooo, ooo, since your such a grand poohbah of Blitz, maybe you could answer a question.
Sometimes I get an “Awesome!” with no idea what was the awesome thing that happened. Any idea?

“Awesome!” is said when you get a big chain of 15 or 20 or gems knocked out at once.

Thank you, Justin - I really appreciate answers from a master. Can I ask another question? Can you tell me what the other messages are a response to? Sometimes I get a "“Good!”, and try to replicate the action, only to hear icy silence from the bassundo vocce. “Excellent” is another comment I’ve yet to nail down. Sometimes I hear flames, but they die out with no resultant reward. What causes the exploding cross-flashes? I want to know how to generate them! Help me, Obi-Justin, you’re my only hope!

“Good!” - Matching five gems at once either all in a row (creating a Hypercube) or in a cross or L-shape (creating a Star Gem).

I’ll keep working on the others.

Great! Thanks! Also, what’s your favorite boost? Favorite precious gem?
I feel like I’m being an annoying kid sister, but I really appreciate your help. I guess that’s the Great Responsibility that comes with Great Power.

Too late for the edit -
I did want to add that I’ve found out a few things on my own. The hints don’t give a crap about star gems and will blithely point away from them. I found out about the free spin right before I posted the OP, and I’m ashamed to say it’s one of the first things I do upon waking and grabbing the iPod. I’ve found that I have trouble using the “mix up the board” gem, only because I forget to use it twice during the minute. My favorite boost is the one that gives you a random special gem. I have managed to get as high as 404,000, and that’s after about two weeks of an especially light work load. I foresee lots of time to get better, since the Benevolent Powers That Be are shipping my job off to Long Beach and expect me to train my replacement over the phone. This doesn’t make me the loyal employee I normally am. Hopefully I’ll find a new job within the company (a breeze at 60, right?) and not have to go on the Pro circuit.

My favorite boost is definitely the random special gem. When combined with the Detonator and the free 2X boost, you can rack up a lot of points really quickly.

My favorite gem is definitely the Kanga Ruby. If you get lucky with the gem randomization, you can score big points and it’s how I pulled down over a million points.

Ha! Just found out what the crackling noise is. (Can you tell it’s my day off and I’m alone?) if you keep hitting combos and the crackling noise appears after the tone levels out, at a certain point point you hit a “Blazing Speed” level. Don’t know what the point boost is, though.
I’m glad there’s not a “Dumbass!” vocal cue for when you hit the three combo a split second after you see the star gem option. I’d hear it too often…
I also just had the x2 boost show up free. Don’t know if its related to the 150,000+ score, since I’m not sure when it appeared…
