Bloody Insurance Companies!

In December when I was still working in Burger King, someone broke into the staff room and stole over £100 of my stuff. 7 months later I am STILL waiting for my money! So I’d like to say I HATE Burger King, and HATE insurance companies! Anyone else ever had this problem with getting money from employers, or insurance companies?

No. Every place I’ve worked, there’s been a policy that everyone is responsible for personal items; the company accepts no liability. I’ve been robbed (purse and money stolen from desk drawer, as well as other personal items over the years) and my car’s been damaged in the parking lot.

If your employer has insurance for your loss and they’re willing to reimburse you, I say cool beans, you’re luckier than most.

That said, I’d maybe send them a certified letter or something. If they’re going to reimburse you, it shouldn’t take seven months.

On the contrary. Recently, I was forced off the road by a guy who turned in front of me at the last second, causing me to do $2500 worth of damage to my car. His car wasn’t touched, so it was my word against his, and my insurance company all but laughed in my face when I suggested we try to get his company to pay for some of it.

A few days later, out of the blue, his company called me to tell me that as soon as I faxed them an estimate of the damage, they’d send me a check and arrange for me to have a rental car for the duration of the repair. I did, they did, and now all is well. My car’s all shiny and new again, and it didn’t cost me a dime. Hooray for California Casuality! I believe in promoting good companies as well as complaining about the bad.
