I just got tickets to see this show in Las Vegas next week. Anybody seen it? Whadja think?
Also, when buying tickets, some of the seats were footnoted with “You must wear a poncho in these seats”. What’s that all about?
Saw it in Boston, it’s awesome fun…but weird.
I would say the poncho probably has to do with the paint spitting. At one point they fill their mouths with paint and spit it at canvasses, some of which spin. I’d suspect there would be some spray.
Like I said, I have seen it… I HIGHLY recommend it. The poncho section is really not needed, however its possible you could get a little wet, a lot of the drum heads have water and or paint in them that splash. And then theres the spin painting that sue was talking about… thats a possiblity. (BTW I bought one of those spit spin painings, they also autographed my tickets with there blue lips). Overall its definatly NOT like a gallager show.
I left in awe. EXTREAMLY energetic show.
BTW its in the Luxor which is the pyramid shaped casino… its my favorite. Go early and just check out the casino… its way too cool. From the bottom floor you can see all the way to the top… then you can go up to a second floor and STILL see all the way to the top… something was odd about that, you could see the top no matter where you were or what floor.
They’re brilliant, but part of the reason performance art can seem so silly is that people see it and try to describe it to their friends.
The poncho will also protect you from Cap’n Crunch shrapnel.
I saw the Vegas show, the same one you’re going to.
It’s incredible. Part comedy, part music (mostly percussion instruments), part performance art…any attempt to describe it would give away some of the surprises. But it’s a terrific show; I look forward to your full report after you’ve gone.
Also try to catch the Cirque du Soleil resident shows, O and Mysteré, while you’re there. If your budget allows.
I saw it in NYC, which is where they started.
I saw it twice in my lifetime (I’m upstate now, much more difficult commute), and they are amazing.
I sat in a poncho section. I absolutely loved their show. mouthbreather, there is no way you can possibly dislike it.
I also have their CD.
I’ve seen them on The Tonight Show a few times, and the part about the percussive music is dead on. I would pay a LOT of money to see them live.
I saw the Chicago show and, well, I was less than impressed. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of it was good, the first 2/3 were great! There was one number with a funky musical instrument that went on a bit long for me, and the Jello-mold magic tric was pretty stupid. The end of it was, for me, terrible. The passing down of paper towels while flourescent things spin on the ceiling and the loud music plays, well, that’s just dumb. And wasteful. The beginning was much too clever for that ending.
Don’t sit in the poncho section - really.
I saw them in NYC, having no idea what to expect. I was with a large group of people, and the perpetrators (organizers of the outing) thought it would be funny to have the group sit in the front section. Ha Ha.
I really enjoyed the show, but the ponchos were way gross. They were clear plastic, and much used. All kinds of things come off that stage - Captain Crunch, banannas, goop, …
Theoretically the ponchos are cleaned between shows. But they’re not cleaned very well. They’re kind of greasy and sticky, and they have hard bits of dried … things … on them.
Enjoy the show, avoid the ponchos.
eww… nasty… in the Vegas show they were cheap hand out syrane wrap type ponchos… the disposable kind that you throw away or take home.
How hard is it to get tickets for the show in Chicago? I’m going to be there on a Saturday a few weeks from now, and I’d love to go.

I was fortunate enough to get some tickets as I wandered through Boston last year and what a fun show!! Trying to describe it to my friends when I got home was almost as entertaining.
A little different, but quite innovative and talented. I loved it, particularly the effects with the drums.
We saw it in Boston and enjoyed it very much.
If you sit in the poncho section, dress appropriately. It gets very hot and sweaty under those things. Also, I left the theatre with overripe banana in my hair.
TBMG (anyone else ever noticed how close that is to TMBG?) frickin rocks…I saw them in NYC about 4 years ago, and but damn did that show kick ass.
DoctorJ, you can get tickets through Ticketmaster for the Chicago show. Don’t forget to hit the bathroom to hear their “bathroom song.”
I got to go on stage for a segment. I don’t want to give anything away, I’ll just say it involved Twinkies. I had a wonderful time - but I wasn’t in the poncho section!
I’ve never seen them but a good friend of mine used to (maybe still does?) work front of house for them in Chicago. She said the show was fantastic and the guys are just great.
Before they were very famous, I did lights for them in Houston when they were trying out their TUBES show. Messy. Great show though. Music was fabulous. Best gag was the marble bit. I don’t know if they still do it. Those of you who have seen them recently let me know.
I wouldn’t miss them if I were you. I would love to see them again.
