Anyone mention New Salem Sue or am I the first?
New Salem Sue would totally kick the OP’s Cow’s ass in Cow Deathmatch.

A friend of mine sorta slurred the words together one time by accident and now we always call it “The Marble Slobbery”.
OK…people, clearly you have forgotten that in the realm of giant statues, Ohio wins. Please keep in mind that I am an actual church-going type person. And yet, I was stunned and amused when I was chauffered (by none other than our esteemed leader, Mr. Rue DeDay, past roadside Jesus. Made for all kinds of snappy repartee amongst the radio users in our little caravan. If one is sticking solely to large quadripeds, then Michigan also has the largest horse sculpture in the US (or maybe it’s the world, I’m too lazy to look). I don’t see a way to get you directly to the horse itself; click twice on the “next” button at the bottom of the slideshow and then click on the last picture in that set (there are thumbnails below the current picture). The Meijer Gardens are extermely cool, by the way, if you’re ever in Grand Rapids you should make a point of going.
I’m just taking a momentary break between a concert and some gardening. Back in a little bit.

I got my ice cream!!!
I made the Kid tacos, so now she loves me and after I offered to pay, she went to Coldstone for us.
I didn’t see any giant animals today, but I did see a whale vertebra - it was very big. I wish now I’d taken a picture of it. I think Robert was mostly bored today. How anyone can *not * be enchanted by the Baltimore Aquarium, I just don’t understand. Although he did seem to think the rays were cool. We also toured the Torsk, the Chesapeake, and the Taney, before going for lunch. Then we went to Fort McHenry where were looked around and snapped a few pics before the storm hit. We got sprinkled upon as we dashed for the car, and on the way home, for a while I had the wipers on high and I was driving way slow. But it stopped pretty fast, and most of the ride home wasn’t bad.
We went out to eat at Bert’s Diner when we came home because Robert wanted to see Courtney again. Well, she was working and FCD called her over and let her know Robert was smitten with her. Poor Robert was so embarrassed, but she was really sweet - she stopped to talk to him a couple of times, even tho we weren’t at her table.
So, I have pics.
From here are the last 9 ceramic pieces from my last class. Several of them are claimed, but if anyone is interested in having one for the price of postage, my email is in my profile. I still haven’t gotten the stupid boxes, tho. I’m going to the post office tomorrow to talk to the nice lady.
And here are pics of my studio. For all intents and purposes, it’s finished. Yay!
In case you didn’t figure it out - you have to page thru the pics…
Oh yeah, and I think I noticed two more MMP newbies, although it’s late and I’m tired and I’m not going to page back to check names. So if you’re a newbie, I noticed you, and I welcome you. Send chocolate and I’ll be your friend. My affection can be bought.
<looks sourly at FCM’s finished studio>
How is it that two amateur buliders, in their spare time, can build an entire room and I still don’t have running water?
Hmmph.
Washer comes between 9-11 am tomorrow; cabinet comes between 12-6. Anyone else notice how much free time that gives me tomorrow? Me, too.
#2 son is driving me nuts. He is bored with summer. Next summer–it’s day camp for him. He won’t read, won’t learn to ride a bike or practice soccer or baseball. He lives for Nintendo or TV or Age of Empires/Oregon Trail. Look what we have wrought. I do put limits on his screen time, but dayum-this kid is a tough cookie. What 8 year old boy doesn’t want to ride a bike? I suspect mind meld with terrorists. (seriously, I am disturbed by this).
Update on stupid computer problem–[sub]I wasn’t using proper case size[/sub]
I heard that guffaw.
Gotta say, New Salem Sue is impressive.
Jahdra, I believe the key to surviving the excitement is…well…I’m not sure. How is it that I’ve never had a job where slow moments were an issue? I don’t want to be bored, but being just a tad less stressed would be marvelous.
How have I managed not to have ice cream since Sunday? The ice cream store is maybe an entire minute from my front door. On foot. I’m in my jammies, so I’m not having ice cream tonight. Maybe tomorrow night. Oh…and the Marble Slobbery…hee hee.
Dot - what everyone else said. Quit. Especially since you already have another offer, there’s really no reason not to. Anyone who won’t let you go to a funeral for such a selfish reason isn’t worth working for. Oh…and I’m very sorry about your friend.
Bath sheets remind me of my recent wedding present shopping experience. My friend’s friend registered for Turkish towels and bath sheets in addition to every other size towel imaginable. I was amused and my friend was appalled. She couldn’t get over the fact that this was going to be a two-person household and they were going to have towels enough for about 10.
Personally, I just think it’s a bad month for databases. I had to create one to sort out a nightmare file. Took me 5 (count them: ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE) tires to import the last file. And tomorrow, I get to slice and dice the data and compare it to the output from another software product. (We’re comparing them and making sure they give us the same results.) Exteme fun. Glad to have company, though.
So, where’s Meeks and her Punjabi wedding story? We’re waiting impatiently. ::taps foot::
Most excellent cat pics SCL. And I completely agree with your captions, TWO (and not just because you’re also a member of the initials club with me and MBG and SCL and…thought of this yesterday FCM!)
Jahdra, that’s an interesting interpretation of vegetarian. I’m not a big fan of meat on pizza, so when we order it at work, there’s always at least one type that contains only plant-based toppings. Well, and cheese. But nothing in the meat category.
Re: the pic thread. I’ve been looking at it (gosh they take a long time to get through!), but haven’t posted there cuz I’m not planning to post a pic. I figure that MMPers saw me in the pics from Rue’s picnic and that’s enough. And I actually meant to come back here and say that: 1) Sean, that’s a nice pic of you, 2) TWO, you don’t look weird at all ( ), rather friendly, in fact, and 3) MBG, where in Mexico is your family originally from? You look like you could be one of my cousins., oh and 4) swampy, I still like that pic of you (I’ve seen it before, but don’t know that I’ve commented on it). Oh and I almost forgot LOUNE…shouldn’t you be at work instead of starting threads that eat up hours and hours of everyone’s time? (I liked your pic too.) I know I’ve forgotten someone…just can’t think who. (Remind me, please, it’s past my bedtime and my brain has shut down for the evening.) I was amazed at the number of Dopers who were younger than I’d figured.
Oh…and on preview, I see FCM has checked in with more pics. Love the ceramics…especially the flat round red dish. I’m thinking I’d like it if it’s not claimed… (I liked all of the pieces, but that was my fave du jour). I’ll shoot ya an e-mail in the morning…
Well…that’s it for free-form ramblings. I’m off to bed.

Simple - no kids at home. And we’re really just semi-amateurs. We’ve done and helped with so many building/remodeling projects over the years, not to mention hours watching HGTV, it’s almost second nature.
That, and we don’t have a life outside of work and our basement… no boat anymore…
FCM - please check your email
gardentraveler, we have a horse by that same lady at the Columbus Museum - we just got it last year. It’s not as big as that one, though - more real-life horse sized. I think it’s beautiful - even though it’s metal, it feels/looks/etc. like a horse. It has horse energy. That makes no sense, but I understand what I mean.
And yes, Felicia is definitely an “I don’t give a shit” cat. I’ve been catsitting for her for 3 years and this last week was the first time she’s ever let me pet her. I could brush her for hours on end, but I have now been promoted to petting. I almost got tears in my eyes. Her mama says I am now officially her stepmother. This cat is so weird, when it is time to take her to the vet, her owner calls another pet nanny for assistance. She doesn’t want Felicia to get mad at me. Zac really isn’t evil - I’ll have to post another picture when I have more energy.
Dot, your boss totally sucks diseased donkey genitals. I can’t believe they wouldn’t let you off for a funeral.
FCM, I am in lust with your studio - the envy is dripping off of me in great green glops. (NO, cats, leave that alone!) And your work is lovely.
All the road-trip-for-food stories remind me of driving to Atlanta from LaGrange (about an hour) to go to the Varsity for a grease fix. Good times.
I should really do some dishes. I have spent the whole day doing fun stuff like lying around reading and sewing, and I haven’t done any dishes.
My FIL dropped off a sleep relaxation type cd, that he said was also a weight loss hypnosis thing, and to let him know if it has any effect, because he doesn’t think cds has weight-loss capabilities.
I’m thirsty. Time for dishes and lots of something to drink.
Today the sun shone all day! First day this month it hasn’t rained. A girlfriend,Vonnie, came over to weed whack my yard (I have mentioned I am gimpy, right? Legally disabled, with mobility issues plus a slew of others which limit me, to a degree) as here in the wild and woolly town of Kodiak precious few have lawns which are mow-able. So that was a great bonus, plus she stuck her arm in my window Sunday and gave me a handful of lilac blooms, one of my most favorite flowers. They scented the entire house.
The kitty pics are great, especially Zac, who could be my Kazzpurr’s twin. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d79/kaiwik/Kazzpurrunderthesalmonberrybush.jpg
SurrenderDorothy I am so sorry for your loss, and I would not stay at a job where such matters as funeral attending are not given priority. I have no advice I feel good offering, as I tend to become righteously angered and take drastic action. You are in my thoughts.
Big statues. Well we have a bear statue at the Harbormaster’s office, but it’s merely life sized, so it doesn’t really count, even if Kodiak bears are huge, but a couple of years ago a guy chainsawed a statue to stand in the mall (hehehe, a mall in Kodiak is such a joke) and here it is: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d79/kaiwik/WelcometoKodiak.jpg
Bath sheets are a necessity for me, they are just big enough to wrap my hair in after I wash it. Yeah, I have some long ass hair.
Today a good deed I did came back on me. A family I am friends with run the only plant nursery in town, and since the fishing season is off to such a slow start I haven’t been able to buy bedding plants. Well the family has a visiting daughter who lives in Texas, and she really wanted to take some fish home. Well, skiffman (I decided that skiffologist is too long to type) brings home fish every time he comes home, so I put a whole bunch of sockeye salmon and halibut, all cleaned, filleted, wrapped in cling film and butcher paper and frozen rock hard, plus some packages of frozen home smoked salmon into a box and sent it to them with Vonnie. She called me later to tell me that the nursery family gave me a gift certificate, so tomorrow I am going to go shopping for posies! Yay!
I’m gonna stop now, as I also have a tendency to be verbose. I guess I am going to be the first to say “Happy Hump Day” everyone!
Which one are you, Jersey-ite?
Harold or Kumar?
By the way, whoever hasn’t yet, go submit your picture in my thread.
Yes…now!
Checked and responded - now you check yours!
No. I’ve linked to pics of me before - anyone who cares has already seen the few decent ones that exist. I show myself thru my art - look at my ceramics.
When I click on the studio pics all I get are red X’s FCM.
Today I’m supposed to [del]torture[/del] test somebody. Wonder if she’ll show up.
ditto
Yeah, me too - there’s apparently something wrong at the site. If it’s still screwed up later, I’ll repost the pics. But for now, I need a shower. Patience, Grasshopper!
