I’m back to the busy stage of my job again. So I’m just going to wave “hi!” to everyone as I dash through.
hi MMPers!!!
didja miss me?
I’ll pretend you missed me.
I got to spend a week in the hospital. fun times for all. they made me fat.
I think MBG’s nickname should be 'sterb. For mister bus guy. is that dumb? it is. ignore me. Or maybe Otto after the bus guy on the simpsons.
and welcome to… um, everyone.
mika I want to hear about weddings. I’m girly too and i don’t care!
I’ve never had bluebell ice cream that I know of… I don’t think I’ve ever had lemon refrigerator pie either. hmm. Maybe I should look up a recipe for that becuase it could be popular. Are there other flavors? my sister hates lemon enough that if I make something lemon, she’ll throw a fit.
Anyway. I’m off. tata, y’all!
When I read about the cow sculpture this morning, it reminded me of this cowoutside of this French restaurant called Bistro Le Cep here in “Cowtown.”
It’s on wheels!
I have returned from my shortened day of work. I am so glad to be on the second floor. I also have decided that, come hell or high(er) water, my sweet arse is getting out of this place. I received leads on many apartments today and will check them out as soon as possible.
I want ice cream, too. I have no freezer, so can’t store any. I have to buy a pint and eat the whole thing. They don’t have Blue Bell here but they do have Turkey Hill.
I also occasionally indulge in Haagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche (caramel is my life) or sorbet.
Since Snakes brought it up, here’s a pic of Kadie the Cow and Bebe. That little cowette looks weird to me. It also kinda looks like Kadie is gonna step on Bebe.
Mika I wanna hear about Punjabi weddings too. I’m all about culture, broadening my horizons and nosiness.
Of course we missed you! If you go back through old MMPs you’ll find people asking where Dot is!
I hope you’re ok. Weight is a tough issue. We’re always here to listen if you need to talk about it. Just make sure to take care of yourself. Because we care!!
There’s a used office furniture place in Sacramento that has a big red and white cow as a mascot. Makes 'em easy to find - just look for the big red and white cow on the sidewalk.
Hmmm… just looked at the Breyers no sugar added and carb-smart ice creams. As long as we hold to an honest serving of the stuff, it looks like something we can indulge ourselves with every few days.
gots I was gonna make a snarky comment about why an office furniture place would want a cow as a mascot til I read how he was rescued and all. I’m all into animal statue rescue.
Dots good to see ya back! Hope everything’s going ok. Lemon Icebox Pie is one of life’s nummiest of pleasures. You should try it.
Tel you were in danger of being flooded away today. I say that deserves ice cream. You have to do somethin’ to calm your nerves after all.
“Honest” serving…pfffft. I say three or four nice big scoops is the way to go. It’s one of my few indulgences.
Mmmmm…ice cream. I haven’t has Blue[del]ball[/del]bell(Damn you,Shibb !). I like Breyers coffee ice cream, and FMV low fat vanilla. :dubious:
rifty, I liked Cecil’s version better.
[cheers]Ex![/cheers] I feel your pain, my people go catatonic over the smallest things(just read the @#%$&* Windoze dialog box, and obey!!!)
Good job KeithT!! taxi, did he get to use weapons,or only his hands?
MBG How about Otto(from the Simpsons)?
Meant to come back before I left for work and ask whether anyone was affected by the flooding. It was all over the news on the radio this morning. Sounds like everyone made it through more or less unscathed so far. It would make me extremely nervous to be trapped inside a building during a flood. Glad you made it out OK, Tel. How’s the water where you are, dogb. And FCM? Thought of you when they mentioned that the generator at the National Archives was out because of the flood.
Hi Ex! Nice to see you around here again. Sorry work sucks. We’ve had several lists of MMPers we miss and you were always in there. Stop by again…please. (It’s fun to watch you pick on welby! :D)
Dotster, you were in the lists too. We worry. We can’t help it. Glad you stopped by! I kinda like Otto for a nickname for MBG cuz there’s a poster named Otto, so it would be confusing. (And I’m all about confusing nicknames.)
MBG, you aren’t alone in the initials-but-no nickname department. A couple of times people have tried to create a nick for me. Trav, Gardy, even G’Trav (that was Rue; he was having an overly creative day, I think). None of them seem to have stuck.
Welcome spicy, jali, jahdra and anyone else I missed. FCM really likes dark chocolate.
TWO. was that you who asked about the spinach? (Welcome back, by the way.) I’ve never grown spinach, but eHow says you should cut spinach if it starts to bloom. With a lot of plants, they get bitter if they bloom or even start to set buds (this is called bolting). This site says you should harvest it because leaves will deteriorate as the stem forms. You could try cutting back the stem on some and see how long the leaves continue to develop…
Well…gotta get something done here. Some cleaning and laundry are on the menu.
Back after a while…
GT
Swampy, we’re talking about my family here, nobody wants to see any of us naked. Trust me on this.
We missed you Dots and you are NOT FAT! Unnerstand?
The GirlChild[sup]TM[/sup] has invited us to her house for dinner (BBQ chickies). They have A/C. They’s good kids!
The thermometer on the porch says 102F. The thermometer in the living room says 87F.
I’m meltttttttttiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnggggggggg!!!
Ugh. For reasons unbeknownst to me, I’m exhausted. I was fine until I got back to the house, and then WHOOSH! All the energy drained out of me. It’s slowly starting to come back now, as I sit and watch Alton Brown and mindless cartoons.
Today the wheels began turning in earnest to have me switch to more physics-based work. I’m not sure exactly what I’ll be working on, but I met with some director-type person (honestly, the organizational structure of this base changes more often than Hugh Hefner changes girlfriends) who heads up a group of about 20 researchers, half of which do theoretical math stuff. So I’ll be doing that sort of thing. This guy was particularly interested in having me work on interesting puzzles that would also be of use in my graduate education.
Dorothy, so glad to have you back and on the road to good health. We were all worried about you.
taxi - a huge CONGRATULATIONS!! to KeithT. Defending a thesis is haaard.
Yay for ice cream, and yay for all our new Cool Kids. You’ll love it here. Nice and cozy. Plus we have ice cream.
Oh, and MBG? Senor Autobus Muchacho. The defense rests.
Someone bring me some ice cream. I have no vehicle and it’s kind of iffy as far as braving the trip to the Kroger on foot tonight.
How could you not mention the gigantic animal landmark that you (or someone) gave me to help me find the restaurant where we met.
A big ol’ armadillo! Like huge! I took pics, but it was dark and raining and my pic was little more than a blur. But it was an armadillo and it helped me find the restaurant where I met Dolores and lieu and Ringo and I can’t remember who else because I have a terrible memory…
Sorry, swampy, brownies never got made. We had a toad-soaker of a storm that flooded the basement. Well, a little flood - somewhere between 15 and 20 gallons. I started out trying to sop it up with a mob, but then I remembered we have a wet/dry vac. So I emptied the dry gunk out of the vac and used it to suck up the water. That’s how I got a measure of how much water there was.
The flooding was caused by a clogged drain outside the basement door. Actually, the drain wasn’t clogged - the mesh around the drain that keeps the leaves out got clogged with leaves. Once I cleared that mess, the outside flood drained, and I was free to clean up the basement. Anyway, that little adventure took an hour or so. And next thing I knew, my sweetie was home from work, and we had to catch the cat for her trip to the vet. She was elusive and not at all happy. Bernie, on the other hand, was happy to go anywhere in the car. We were in and out of the vet’s in about 30 minutes, which was cool.
Across the street from the vet there were a bunch of police and sheriff cars. Because of this. Big excitement in a little town.
I’m sure there was more that I wanted to share, but I’ve forgotten. Oh, but if you care, Bernie weighs 60 pounds. Probably 58# of it is hair.
oooh! then we could call him SAM
Welcome back Dottie - of course we missed you
I’m not very girly, 'mika, but I’m interested in hearng about the wedding
oh, and I did go out and buy:
B&J Cherry Garcia
B&J Chunky Monkey
Marshmellow sauce
Caramel sauce
and multicolored sprinkles.
I made a sundae that will most definitely hold me, ice cream wise, for at least two weeks
I can’t be Otto, he’s a driver, and I don’t (as in WOULDN’T) drive a bus.
I’ll accept the initials, I’m in good company with gt there. We’ll form the initial club.
But spats, (or sr if you wanna join our club), I love the SAB tag, I actually called myself that once after I read it.
I’m waiting for the wife to get home from her walk, so I can order the pizza. Dinner is lazy-mans food today.
But…my secret plan is to pick it up and not have delivery, because then I can stop and get some ICE CREAM!!!
If I’m going to read about it all day, I’m eating some too.
I’m on my way to a board meeting for my professional organization. I’m the VP of Programs. Whee! The last VP of Programs quit suddenly last fiscal year, like back in February, so we’ve had lousy (no) programs since then. I’ve come up with a couple of ideas to pitch to the board, one of them being to have my company sponsor one of our dinner meetings and (keep your fingers crossed) donate an iPod Nano for a fundraiser. An iPod Shuffle would be fine, too! (We only have our logo stamped on iPods, so I’m not listening to people who like other MP3 players better. La la la, can’t hear you. No, I don’t work for Apple, I work for a company that puts its logo on everything.) I’m sure the board will go for it, we’re a non-profit and we hemorrhaged money last year. The previous board spent money like drunken sailors on shore leave and if we kept that up, we’d be bankrupt in a couple of years. I think I’m going to like being on the board - it gives me a way to look busy at work, especially with the mess the last VP left things in. Oh, well, it least it wasn’t our treasurer. Again.
How’d that post? I hit preview, darn it! I meant to add, I believe I need to have a strawberry sundae tonight when I get home. Yum!
Fortunately Blue Bell’s Banana Pudding flavor is a seasonal and I’ve only seen it in the Pint sizes. If it was available year round in half-gallon sizes, I would have weighed 400 lbs. Alas, Blue Bell is not available here in Saint Louis. But the equally evil Ted Drewes and its competition Fritz’s and Mr. Wizard’s are.
