Blue's Clues Steve - A serious Rocker??!

Am I the only one who was not aware that Steve Burns, aka Steve from Blues Clues, is attempting to be a serious rocker? I ran across a story today that provided the link to his home page, where you can listen to the entire album. He published a disk in August - most of the Flaming Lips are his backup band. You can hear it here, if you so choose. Steve Burns It isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Not sure what to think of it otherwise. As a mother of a pre-schooler and previous fan of Steve, it is very strange to see him nearly bald with a goatee, if nothing else.

I dig his music (at least, the stuff that I’ve heard) and am seriously considering buying his album. It’s a bit unfortunate that he’ll forever be marked as “that guy from Blue’s Clues,” especially as it seems like he would prefer to be recognized as a singer/ songwriter, but it does make for a great way to introduce his work.

At least this time, years from now, when people are talking about “such and such rocker was the little boy/nerd from this show”, well at least they’ll be right about this one!

this is hilarious and really quite cool!
My son is almost nine months old and Blues Clues is the ONLY show he’ll suffer through without throwing a coniption! (actually, he kind’ve sogs in front of it, it’s hilarious).

We’ll have to see if the li’l man enjoys Steve’s CD then!

Yeah, it’s like the Wiggles* in reverse. Back in the '80s, they were a pub rock band called the Cockroaches. It’s really weird seeing there CDs in stores when they’re looking all rock and skivvy-less.

*Annoying kids group - they’re internationally known now, right? If not, disregard my post.

This is the guy who used to be on the show, not the current guy - right?

gex gex - Yes, the Wiggles are Internationally known now. No way! I didn’t know they used to be a serious rock band! I would find that terribly amusing. I must find a picture of them as the Cockroaches now.

dangergene - you can try, but that is just it - the disk is not made for children. Unless you really pay attention you don’t even recognize it as Steve’s voice.

I have actually found his music quite catchy. After watching the video for “What I do on Saturday” on his website, I couldn’t get the song out of my head for the rest of the evening. I may be forced to buy the CD…

dantheman - correct - Steve was the original - he wore the green striped shirt. Joe is on the show now - he wears an orange shirt with squares on it.

He was also known as playing a murderer on a TV series (one episode, of course); this was quite the scandal among the Transformers and My Little Pony set.

I picked up the CD yesterday (thanks to the reminder I got from the MPSIMS thread about the same) and although I only had two complete play backs I am quite impressed.

I am neither a parent nor did I grow up watching him so it may be easier for me to disassociate him from Blues Clues. I knew the show exsisted and he was the geeky kid but that was about it.

There is definately an influence by the Flaming Lips (besides their playing on the album) . I know Steve wrote all the songs himself but Yoshimi Battlles The Pink Robots had to be in his CD player at the time. He admitted the influence in an interview I saw a few months ago that when he first heard “Yoshimi” he left the party he was at and bought the CD. If you have both albums you should hear the influence as well. Mind you, this is not a bad thing or an attempt to belittle the “Mighty Little Man” Steve. I’d much rather him have The Flaming Lips as influence than The Backstreet Boys.

To be honest if he didn’t have some of The Lips back him up on the album (and as an influence) I don’t know if I would have bought the album. I may have passed him off as the next “Cory Feldman” trying to use his 15th minute of fame to show case what a no talent flake he is. So far it dosen’t seem to be the case.

If I am still listening to the album come 2004 then he did well in my book.

This is awesome. I love Steve. The first time I ever saw Blue’s Clues I went “Dude, they have to be paying that guy so much money to do that…” But seriously, he’s cool. (Joe sucks.) And after listening to some of these songs, I actually really would rather like to buy the album. It sounds pretty cool.

And woah… when did Steve turn hott?!

Ask and ye shall receive. Special bonus:Cockroaches discography and biography

from the above site about the Wiggles:

I thought this was way cool.

I like the Wiggles. They kick Barney’s ass!

The Banana Splits could kick all their asses!

According to many women I know (mostly moms), Steve’s always been hot.

I knew about Steve’s new musical efforts well over a year ago. A friend of mine sent me his demo video, which he was sending around when he was label-shopping. I loved the song “What I Do on Saturday”. I’ll definitely have to pick up the CD now that it’s out.

Are you telling me Steve’s not off at college???
Man! He’s off making crazy hippy music and I have to put up with a second rate replacement. Wait until I tell my 2 year old. I sense revolution…

I bought the CD without even first listening to any tracks on the internet. Blue’s Clues was always a VERY well-done kids show on all counts BUT I really did always appreciate that Steve had a wonderful creative energy that I knew would come out in any project he embarked on.

And YES! the CD is awesome!!! Start to finish!!!

And Yes! Moms have wanted to bang Steve ever since the show debuted, he didn’t just suddenly become hot.

Y’know, it’s funny; just a couple of days ago, my 16-year-old found Steve’s web page, pulled it up, and was showing me pictures on it. “Do you know who that is?” she asked. “No.” “C’mon, just guess. You’ll never guess!” Well, I was trying to figure it out, when my 3-year-old walks into the room, takes one look, and says “That’s Steve from Blue’s Clues”!:smack:
