I have recently been invited to a chapter of BNI

Sounds like a pretty good thing and I am 75% likely to join at this point having met everyone and been extensively interviewed by a couple of the chapter members. Compared to other potential sources of work leads its pretty darn cheap ($300/year). In ways I feel almost a little honored to be invited (you can only join by being referred by a member with a positive customer experience with you.)

At the same time, I just wonder if there is really any positive benefit or is this some kind of mlm for the exectutive staff and you just hope you are around long enough to reap some of the rewards.

I have known some members, who seemed to maintain their membership for quite some period of time. If you are self-employed and sell to individuals or small businesses, it might be worth giving a try. I wouldn’t necessarily consider it an honor being asked to join, but more one of those things that if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, you may get some benefit out of it.
